Category: Classes, workshops and Exhibitions, visual art

UPCOMING CLASSES & WORKSHOPS!
December 3rd Workshop (Cyanotype) 4PM-6PM - In this workshop, you will learn to make a unique one-of-a-kind handmade print by coating various papers with Cyanotype chemicals and developing them in the sun. Bring found objects, plant materials or print digital negatives on acetate. Paper will be provided for the workshop, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like to experiment. You'll need to register for this class at least 2-days in advance so we can get the materials ready for you to use! A materials fee of $60 is due at or before the event.

December 8th Class (Learning Series - The Camera) 6PM-8PM - The Camera will teach you all about analog shooting. Topics covered will be: selecting a camera, camera functions, operating in that mysterious "Manual" mode, metering your subject, lens selection, and more. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.

December 10th Workshop (Lumen Printing) 4PM-6PM - Lumen printing is an early photographic process developed in the 19th century. Using sunlight as developer and (mostly) organic objects as subjects, a lumen print makes a creative impression of our physical world. Come learn the fun Lumen process and discover how to apply it in your design and creative process. You will be making prints within minutes in this exciting workshop as you learn to expose and develop your works. A workshop fee of $30 is due at or before the event.

December 12th Class (Learning Series - The Negative) 6PM-8PM - The Negative will take you inside The Darkroom where you will learn to load and process your film. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.

December 14th Class (Learning Series - The Print) 6PM-8PM - The Print will take you inside The Darkroom where you will learn the basics of enlarger use, burning and dodging and developing finished prints. For this class, you must bring your developed film and B&W photo paper. We suggest buying film and paper locally from F32 near West Town Mall. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.

Oak Ridge Art Center: Gallery of Holiday Shops

Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Fine Crafts and Free event

A Week of Delights! Due to the unrivaled success of Gallery of Holiday Shops in the past two years, we will host the event for a full week again, making it a week of delights!
Gallery of Holiday Shops will be run from Saturday, December 3 through Saturday, December 10 from 9 to 4 pm each day. We will have some artists and several volunteers here to help you make purchases and package your items. As in the past, we will have one cashier area so each shopper need only make one purchase and will not have to carry all the merchandise around as you shop all the booths. We suggest you make reservations to come to the show when you prefer, but will take walk-ins when, and if, numbers in the building will allow. This annual event offers guests an opportunity to access one-of-a-kind creations by regional artists and artisans in a variety of media. We hope this coincides with the need of members of our community to find beautiful, meaningful items for their loved ones for the holidays in a safe environment.

There is never an admission fee, and proceeds from the artists’ sales will benefit both the artists and the Art Center. Shopping local is a great way to support regional artists, the Art Center, and our local economy.

River & Rail Theatre Company: The Wolves

Category: Theatre

December 2 - 18: THE WOLVES by Sarah DeLappe, a co-production with Pellissippi State Community College

Squats, jumping jacks, quads, hamstrings, butterfly, periods, Trigonometry, pressure, expectations, loss...Sarah DeLappe takes teenage girls seriously, "I wanted to see a portrait of teenage girls as human beings - as complicated, nuanced, very idiosyncratic people who weren't just girlfriends, or sex objects or manic pixie dream girls but who were athletes and daughters and students and scholars and people who were actively trying to change the world around them." This sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, and sometimes terrifying play takes an insider's look at a high school girls soccer team and finds a full human microcosm there.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Thorne Rooms + Miniatures

Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Fine Crafts and Free event

DECK THE HALLS... The KMA's Thorne Rooms are all decorated for the holiday season! After Thanksgiving, Knoxville Museum of Art pulls out the tinsel and trimmings to get our collection of Thorne Rooms ready for the most wonderful time of the year! Thank you to East Tennessee miniature artisans and Thorne Room experts Annelle Ferguson and Jolie Gaston for making it all possible. On view through December 30.

The Thorne Rooms were developed in the 1930s and 40s by Narcissa Niblack Thorne, Chicago, IL, who loved dollhouses as a child. After extensive travels in Europe where she collected miniature furniture and accessories, Mrs. Thorne had over two dozen miniature rooms created by cabinetmakers from her own drawings. They were made in a scale of one inch to one foot. She painted and stained woodwork, papered walls, and made textiles for the rooms. Read more: https://knoxart.org/exhibitions/thorne-rooms/
