Smoky Mountain Blues Society: Kurt Crandall and The Stella Vees

On Sunday, May 21st, the Smoky Mountain Blues Society and Bluetick Tavern will be pleased to present Kurt Crandall and The Stella Vees.

Tickets cost $20 for SMBS members and $25 for the general public. Doors open at 5 pm and the performance will run from 6 pm – 9 pm. Sorry no advance tickets are available.

Marble Springs State Historic Site: Wool Washing with Pop-Up Event

Marble Springs State Historic invites visitors of all ages to experience the traditional craft of wool washing at a pop-up event on May 21st from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The event will showcase the process of washing wool, from sheep to finished product, using traditional methods. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the wool washing process firsthand and try their hand at washing wool themselves. Demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the event, with experts on hand to answer questions and provide information about the history and uses of wool.

In addition to wool washing demonstrations, the event will also feature children's activities and mini weaving demos, providing younger visitors with the chance to learn about the tools and techniques used in weaving. Visitors are encouraged to wear clothes that they don't mind getting messy, as wool washing can be a bit wet and dirty. The event is suitable for all ages and skill levels, with something to offer for everyone.

Admission is $5 per person, with children under 5 admitted for free.

7th Annual Tennessee Pirate Fest

This family-friendly event occurs at a rustic outdoor festival site located in Harriman, about 30 miles west of Turkey Creek. All are invited to escape to the pirate haven of Port Royal, Jamaica, circa 1674.

The Tennessee Pirate Fest is planned for May 20-21, 27-28-29, 2023, from 11a-6p ET, at 550 Fiske Road. The festival will include eight acres of outdoor family-friendly stage entertainment, interactive costumed street characters, quality vendors, and a variety of games and activities.

Dogwood Arts: 2023 Southern Skies Music Festival

Southern Skies Music Festival is curated by hometown favorites The Dirty Guv’nahs. The 2nd Annual event will feature St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Grace Potter, The Dirty Guv’nahs, Black Joe Lewis, Jackie Venson, The Stews, Cruz Contreras, Doc Robinson, Cece Coakley, EG Vines, Kelsi Walker & the Nervous Kids, Brian Clay with Lauren Arp, and Ben McLaughlin & the Mystic Marauders.

After a successful first year, the festival is expanding to a two-day event featuring thirteen musical acts across two stages, food trucks, craft beer, cocktails, a Maker Market, and more. General Admission Weekend Passes start at $85, or attendees can go VIP for $225 (with access to premium viewing area, hangout space with private bars and restrooms, festival merchandise, and more).

The Guv’s live experience has been hailed as one of the best in the southeast and according to Music Connection Magazine, “The Dirty Guv’nahs don’t just play music; they capture the human experience through song.” Likewise, Southern Skies captures the spirit of Knoxville and honors the Dogwood Arts mission to promote local and regional musician and artists. Dogwood Arts is working with Born & Raised Productions, the Knoxville-based music production company behind Sunset on Central, the Outpost, and Silent Disco Knox to produce the festival.

You don't have to be Scottish to enjoy this unique Festival! The event feature clans, vendors and local and national performers. The property at the visitor center provides a scenic destination for the festival with views of the nearby mountains and is just minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Cades Cove. The 30-plus acres at the center includes adjacent parking.

Festival attendees will be treated to vibrant cultural and educational presentations, while Scotch tasting seminars will feature a bit of history and humor, and the Border Collie demonstrations will showcase their herding abilities.
Competitions include the hammer throw or caber toss, a medley of bands including bagpipes and drummers, and clan challenges like the kilted mile run or the battle axe competition.
