Ijams Nature Center & East TN Bluegrass Assoc: Bluegrass Jam

East Tennessee Bluegrass Association (ETNBA) and Ijams Nature Center are partnering to bring folks together to create music in a beautiful space! Join the fun at a community jam session for all acoustic bluegrass instruments (no harmonicas or spoons at this time) every third Sunday from 2-5 pm (winter hours).

All skill levels are welcome. Pre-signup is requested to get an idea of how many people will participate. Jam sessions will be inside the Visitor Center during the winter months. Chairs will be set up and ready for you to enjoy the show!

Not a musician? Feel free to come out and enjoy the music! Always FREE and open to the public.

Meet Knoxville's Founding Families: Downtown Walking Tour, Sunday, November 19,

The names of some of Knoxville's most prominent families have graced streets and buildings that we trod by every day, but who are the actual people behind those names? From our founding fathers to the captains of industry, get to know more about the Blounts, Whites, Mabrys, McClungs, and others in this downtown walking tour.

This tour will take up to 90 minutes and will go in light rain or shine. Laura Still, an author, storyteller, and owner of Knoxville Walking Tours, will be your guide.

On Sunday, November 19th, the Smoky Mountain Blue Society presents Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’Blues at Bluetick Tavern in Maryville, TN.

Tickets cost $20 for SMBS members and $25 for the general public. Doors open at 5 pm and the performance will run from 6 pm – 9 pm. Sorry no advance tickets are available.

Non-fiction work–film and literature analysis–has appeared in CrimeReads, Mystery Tribune, Reckon Review, and elsewhere. “The Screech Owl,” a short story, was nominated for a Pushcart award, and “Hellbenders” made the “List of Distinguished Stories” in Best American Mystery Stories (2020). His full-length novel, Once these Hills (Shotgun Honey, 2023) is set in late-nineteenth century eastern Kentucky. McGinley teaches middle school in Lexington, KY where he lives with his wife.

Town of Farragut: Battle of Campbell Station program

Two upcoming programs at the Farragut Community Center (239 Jamestowne Blvd.) will provide opportunities to learn more about the Battle of Campbell Station (Nov. 16, 1863) and events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1941).

The Farragut Museum Committee will commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Campbell Station with a program at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. The program will include a video presentation on the battle, pictorial displays and a flag ceremony. The public is invited to this free event.

A presentation covering the events preceding World War II, “A Day of Infamy,” begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4. Frank Galbraith, retired Farragut Middle School history teacher, will discuss the end of World War I, the roaring ’20s, organized crime, the Great Depression, Hitler coming to power and the attack on Pearl Harbor. Veterans are especially encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served at this free event.
