Multi-instrumentalist Luther Allison is one of several UTK School of Music Alumni who have taken the jazz world by storm in recent years. Even before his graduation from UT in 2017, Luther was being tapped to accompany international stars on performances and recordings as both a pianist and a drummer. Since relocating to New York City in 2020, Luther’s profile has continued to rise. Knox County Public Library's documentary film series, Daytime Docs, features Sisters with Transistors, March 17, 1:30 PM at Lawson McGhee Library.

In honor of Women’s History Month and Big Ears Festival, join us for a screening of Sisters with Transistors (2020), the remarkable untold story of electronic music’s female pioneers, who utterly transformed how we produce and listen to music today. The film is narrated by Laurie Anderson, a performer at this year’s Big Ears Festival. Stay after the screening to discuss the film.

Forget the Green Beer, come celebrate St. Patrick's Day with some blues! On Sunday, March 17th, the Smoky Mountain Blues Society and Bluetick Tavern will be pleased to present the Rocky Athas Band.

Rocky Athas, known by critics and fans as The Texas Tornado, The Malice from Dallas, The Young Eric Clapton and The Last Great Bluesbreaker Guitarist, possesses an arsenal of punishing guitar riffs and catchy hooks that have opened every door. From his first solo album at Willie Nelson’s studio with multi-Grammy winning producer, Jim Gaines, to recording with Buddy Miles and SRV’s Double Trouble to Glenn Hughes, Joe Walsh and John Mayall, Rocky has a blues rock pedigree that reads like a Who’s Who of musicians. You might not know how to pronounce his name correctly, but you will most certainly remember his playing!

Tickets cost $20 for SMBS members and $25 for the general public. Doors open at 4 pm and the performance will run from 5 pm – 8 pm.

The Sundress Academy for the Arts is excited to present Poetry Xfit hosted by Emory Dinsmore. This generative workshop event will take place on Sunday, March 17th from 2 to 4 pm EST via Zoom. Join us at the link tiny.utk.edu/sundress with the password “safta”.

Poetry Xfit isn't about throwing tires or heavy ropes, but the idea of confusing our muscles is the same. You will receive ideas, guidelines, and more as part of this generative workshop series in order to complete three poems in two hours. A new set of prompts will be provided after the writers have written collaboratively for thirty minutes. The goal is to create material that can be later modified and transformed into artwork rather than producing flawless final versions. The event is open to prose authors as well!

Dancing With the Celts: Saint Patrick's Day Celebration, Monday, March 17, 2025,

The Celts, (formerly The Nashville Celts) combine tight vocal harmonies with energetic, fiery Irish trad breaks and their own original songs. The Celts are known for incorporating all things Irish into unlimited genres. From retro disco dance to roots country, jazz, and rock with no restrictions to their creative freedom.

"As it is in Heaven" a play produced by Theater 23 which will run Friday and Saturday, March 15th - 16th at 7:30 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, March 16th and 17th at 2:30 PM at the Old City Performing Arts Center at 111 State Street, Knoxville.

A religious community is changed when a non-believer has an ecstatic experience. The 1830's Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, is set in ordered ways. Their once dramatic form of worship has by now developed into routine. The arrival of Fanny upsets the harmony; the Sisters suspect her to be a "winter Shaker," one who suddenly converts when life gets too hard on the farm. Fanny sees angels in the meadow, and soon all the young women are receiving spiritual "gifts" of songs, drawings, ideas and giggles, completely upsetting the community. The leaders question Fanny's intentions and honesty: Is this a resurgence of the original Shaker celebration or something manufactured by Fanny so that she can remain with the Shakers?
