Category: Free event, Literature, spoken word, writing and Theatre

It’s time once again for Shakespeare Outloud! Our next reading is nearly upon us. On Sunday, November 17, we'll read Taming Of The Shrew at 2:00 pm in the Lawson McGee Library downtown. A few parts will be cast ahead of time and a number of parts will be left open to be grabbed up the day of the reading. If you have a strong interest and want to get signed up ahead of time for a role please get in touch with us either by return e-mail, or by phone at 865-546-4280.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! We welcome all voices, all dialects. We read the plays for the joy of reading them, to hear and discover more about the plays and to further help people discover and appreciate these marvelous plays. We’d love you to be part of it. You may come and grab a script and take part in the reading or you can come and participate as an audience member. Jennifer Horn will provide a brief reference for the play – what we call Shakesology! And we can talk about our thoughts about the play afterwards.

It’s free and it’s fun. Tennessee Stage Company: 865-546-4280, www.tennesseestage.com

Marshall Stair, City Councilman and practicing attorney, will discuss What Then Must We Do?: Straight Talk about the Next American Revolution by Gar Alperovitz.
It’s not just a cliché: statistics demonstrate clearly that the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. Is there a better way to spread the wealth? Author and political economist Gar Alperovitz shares his plan for wealth equality in his landmark book What Then Must We Do?: Straight talk about the next American revolution. Join City Council member and practicing attorney Marshall Stair for the discussion in Knox County Public Library’s Book Sandwiched In, Wednesday, November 20, 12:00 p.m. in the East Tennessee History Center auditorium, at 601 South Gay Street.

The public is invited to join the conversation. Bring your favorite sandwich or pick up something from a downtown restaurant. Copies of the books are available at the Library if you'd like to read one before the program.
