If your kids are already complaining about going back to school, we have a way to hold on to a piece of summer. Bring them to the park for a fun, family canoe trip. The relaxed paddling on our lake is perfect for kids that have never canoed before, as well as families that want a relaxing way to explore the quarry. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult. And maybe we will even find freshwater jellyfish that live in Mead's Quarry Lake. Whether it's the color of summer wildflowers or those last vegetables from your garden, we'll discuss ways to keep the warm weather with you into fall. We'll talk about drying plants and flowers, and even some ways to store your garden harvest. The fee for this program is $5 for members and $8 for non-members. You can also learn the secrets of the exhibit hall with our museum curator every Sunday at 3 pm to peek into the world of the Ijams exhibits. 11 am WILDLIFE PROGRAM: Behind the Scenes with the Ijams Veterinarian
(Ages 5 and up) Get up close and personal with some of Ijams' furred and feathered animal ambassadors! You won't want to miss this unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of our animal care program. You'll get to see how we feed and care for the animals, and you may even have the chance to get nose-to-beak or toe-to-tail with some of our wildlife friends. Due to liability concerns, participants cannot be under 5 years of age. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Join us for this terrific new program at Ijams Nature Center! Look for the Nature Fun Station sign to find a fun outdoor learning activity. The Creative Arts Co-op has plans for you...Our next murder mysteries -'Support Group Nightmares'- are scheduled for August 18th and 25th. Our August 18th performance will feature our dinner theatre - a delicous buffet including dessert and beverages.

Ticket price for the dinner theatre is $40.00pp including tax.

Show tickets for our 'Murder a la Mode' performance on Augut 25th are still just $20.00 per person. And that includes the show, beverages, and a dessert bar 'to die for'.

Children's Theatre of Knoxville will present the classic adventure tale ”Treasure Island,” for 13 performances, Thursdays through Sundays from August 17 through September 1.

“Treasure Island” is a grand tale of adventure on the high seas, full of suspense, humor and hair-raising adventure. The play also speaks wisely to the issues of trust and betrayal. Robert Louis Stevenson’s yarn continues to delight readers of all ages, and seeing it come to life onstage promises to be an unforgettable experience.

This Weekend: A Star is Born

As a showgirl guided to heights of industry success by an alcoholic ex-matinee idol, Judy Garland performs one superb song after another (most by Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin) in a production – also starring James Mason and directed by George Cukor – that exhilarates with its craft and style even as it moves toward a heartbreaking finale. Shortened after its 1954 premiere and reconstructed to near its original length in 1983, A Star Is Born endures as one of Hollywood’s supreme triumphs. Tickets are on sale now for both screenings of the fully restored classic film on Friday, August 17 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, August 19 at 2 p.m.

Tuna Does Vegas re-unites the lovable and eccentric characters from the "third smallest town in Texas" as they take a rambling romp in Sin City. The hilarity begins when oddball-conservative radio host Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife Bertha Bumiller are heading to Vegas to renew their wedding vows ... but everyone in Tuna, Texas goes along for the ride! August 1-September 2, Art Market Galley of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Patricia Herzog of Knoxville and Francie Entz of Loudon.

Patricia Herzog, who holds a MS degree in ceramics from UT, will be exhibiting a collection of her recent clay works, some of which include fused-glass elements. She enjoys experimenting with colorful glazes and textures with an emphasis on whimsical animal imagery and the natural environment. Patricia is a member of several regional craft guilds and has been a studio potter since 1978.

Painter Francie Entz will be exhibiting a collection of her recent works in water media. She says that for her “the process of painting--the journey--is the important thing.” Francie aspires to create work that intrigues, captivates, puzzles and that also pleases both herself and the viewer. Member of both the Knoxville and Tennessee Watercolor Societies, her works have been juried into exhibits throughout the US.

A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for August 3 from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live folk-style music performed by Molly Rochelson.
