The Secret City Festival celebrates 11 years of family fun, great entertainment, arts & crafts, and commemorates the incredible history that makes this town unique. Join us as we honor the men and women who built this community and helped end the greatest war mankind has ever known. This award-winning, 2-day event includes the following and MUCH MORE: concerts featuring nationally known entertainers, The Dirty Guv’nahs and Rick Springfield; live music and entertainment; expanded toddler’s, children’s, and teen’s areas; WWII Living History activities and demonstrations; Oak Ridge history exhibits; regional exhibitors and vendors; arts & crafts; TN Creates juried arts show; festival food, fun, and more!

Friday and Saturday, the USEC Pavilion Stage is filled with exciting FREE entertainment, from music to dancing to juggling. A special Children’s Stage is set up on Saturday with entertainment perfect for the younger crowd. Knoxville-native rock ‘n’ roll band The Dirty Guv’nahs will bring their signature sound to the UCOR Concert Stage Friday, June 21, at 7 p.m. The Friday Night concert, sponsored by Lamar Dunn and Associates (LDA Engineering), also features Soul Candy and The Traffic Jam. Pop-Rock music icon, Rick Springfield, will bring his unstoppable energy and unforgettable songs, which have provided the soundtrack for many generations, to the UCOR Concert Stage Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m. The Saturday Night concert is sponsored by CROET & Pro2Serve. Casey Abrams from American Idol will serve as the opening act.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Alive After Five

Celebrates the summer solstice in a tropical spirit with the Carib Sounds Steel Band.

Alive After Five is a unique live music series presented on thirty or more Fridays per year in four seasonal series. The programs take place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Great Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, free parking, and a licensed therapeutic masseuse available. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries. Admission to the spring series premier of Alive After Five is $10 for general admission and $6 for museum members and college students with ID. Ages 17 and under are admitted free.

American Museum of Science & Energy: DOE Facilities Public Bus Tour

June 21 "DOE Facilities Public Bus Tour" with guide commentary for U.S. citizens (10 years and up) with photo ID. This tour highlights the history of Oak Ridge and the history of science and technology at Y-12, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the K-25 Site. Bus tour registration begins at 9 am when AMSE opens. AMSE admission includes the DOE Facilities Public Bus tour, when visitors complete the Registration Sheet at the Admissions Desk. Bus Tour begins loading at 11:45 am, departs at 12 noon and returns at 3 pm. Seating limited. Some restrictions apply. Off-the-bus stops include Y-12 New Hope Center; Bethel Valley Church and the Graphite Reactor, both at ORNL and the K-25 Overlook. Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center: Sunset Music Series

EG Kight, from Dublin, Georgia, is back for a return performance after a two-year hiatus. Early in her career, her rich, mellifluous voice earned her the nickname of “The Georgia Songbird,” and she is a masterful guitarist and an award-winning songwriter as well. Her musical style transcends musical boundaries and has been called “country-flavored southern-fried blues”. In addition to touring across the United States and Europe, she has appeared on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor.

All the concerts begin at 7:00 pm and are presented in the Heritage Center’s covered outdoor amphitheater with a scenic view of the mountains and sunset. The series is presented by Boyd’s Jig & Reel. Admission to the concerts is $5.00 and may be purchased at the door. Admission is free to all “Sunset Music Series” concerts for members of the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center. Annual memberships to the Heritage Center may be purchased at the concerts for $15 per individual or $25 per family. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are available at the concession stand.

East Tennessee Historical Society: Oak Ridge Secret City Photographic History Exhibit

At the Museum of East Tennessee History through August 7. The exhibit provided by the Y-12 History Center, has appeared at a number of prominent venues, most recently at the National Archives and Records Administration's Southeast Region branch in Atlanta. The photographs, many by the Manhattan Project official photographer Ed Westcott, give visitors a firsthand look at life in the Secret City, the war effort, the Cold War, and ongoing research and technology.

The exhibition is open and free to the public.

Bennett Galleries: Photography Exhibition

We've put together a show featuring our favorite photographic work including some exciting new pieces by Christine Patterson! Including work by Michael Underwood, Jurgen Dopatka, Maggie Taylor, Jerry Uelsmann & Studio 193. Each artist has a unique perspective on photography stretching the medium in different directions while creating work you can live with for years to come. This show includes classic black and white photography created from negatives in the dark room as well as cutting edge digital manipulations. Christine even takes it further by adding layers of wax or a chemical pealing process which creates unique one-a-kind photographs.

Also featuring paintings by five of our best local painters, including Allen Cox, Ed Kellogg, Andy Saftel, Robin Surber and newcomer Alex Smith, and turned wood bowls by Roger Luedke.

Tennessee Valley Fair: Summer Reading Program

Beginning June 17, children of all ages will fill area libraries to learn more about agriculture and enjoy a little Fun on the Farm.
The Tennessee Valley Fair Summer Reading Program celebrates its 6th year in 2013. Hosted by Jasper, the Fair’s rooster mascot and the 2012 Fairest of the Fair, Kassie Perkins, participating children will enjoy storytelling and interactive activities. Each child will also receive a free ticket to the 2013 Fair. All summer reading events are free and open to the public:
