Beer lovers rejoice! Following in the footsteps of great craft beer Meccas such as Asheville, NC, and Atlanta, GA, Knoxville now has its own Craft Beer Week to celebrate.

Culminating in the Knoxville Brewfest, Knoxville Craft Beer Week (KCBW) is a full week of special events celebrating the beauty of craft brews. The full week’s schedule spreads from Saturday, June 22 through Saturday, June 29 and consists of a diverse collection of beer-centric events such as special cask-tapping events with beers brewed especially for KCBW, a charity 5k fun-run, beer-pairing brunches and dinners, infusion nights and more. The Knoxville Craft Beer Week Association is an affiliation of local brewers, beer drinkers, distributors, craft beer markets, bars, restaurants and pubs. The mission of the association is to promote the availability, diversity, and enjoyment of craft-brewed beer to the Knoxville Metropolitan community through education, camaraderie, and responsible fun.

At the Museum of East Tennessee History through August 7. The exhibit provided by the Y-12 History Center, has appeared at a number of prominent venues, most recently at the National Archives and Records Administration's Southeast Region branch in Atlanta. The photographs, many by the Manhattan Project official photographer Ed Westcott, give visitors a firsthand look at life in the Secret City, the war effort, the Cold War, and ongoing research and technology.

The exhibition is open and free to the public.

We've put together a show featuring our favorite photographic work including some exciting new pieces by Christine Patterson! Including work by Michael Underwood, Jurgen Dopatka, Maggie Taylor, Jerry Uelsmann & Studio 193. Each artist has a unique perspective on photography stretching the medium in different directions while creating work you can live with for years to come. This show includes classic black and white photography created from negatives in the dark room as well as cutting edge digital manipulations. Christine even takes it further by adding layers of wax or a chemical pealing process which creates unique one-a-kind photographs.

Also featuring paintings by five of our best local painters, including Allen Cox, Ed Kellogg, Andy Saftel, Robin Surber and newcomer Alex Smith, and turned wood bowls by Roger Luedke.

Beginning June 17, children of all ages will fill area libraries to learn more about agriculture and enjoy a little Fun on the Farm.
The Tennessee Valley Fair Summer Reading Program celebrates its 6th year in 2013. Hosted by Jasper, the Fair’s rooster mascot and the 2012 Fairest of the Fair, Kassie Perkins, participating children will enjoy storytelling and interactive activities. Art and science are intertwined in Nikon Small World as the photomicrographs showcase the delicate balance between outstanding scientific technique and exquisite artistic quality. "We are proud that this competition is able to demonstrate the true power of scientific imaging and its relevance to both the scientific communities as well as the general public," explains Eric Flem, Communications Manager, Nikon Instruments.

First place winners Dr. Jennifer Peters and Dr. Michael Taylor of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, partnered to capture the image highlighting their research of the blood brain barrier in a live zebrafish embryo, which is believed to be the first-ever image showing the formation for the blood-brain barrier in a live animal. The top five images in Nikon Small World include: the blood-brain barrier in a live zebrafish embryo; Live newborn lynx spiderlings; Human bone cancer (osteosarcoma) showing actin filaments (purple), mitochondria (yellow) and DNA (blue); Drosophila melanogaster visual system halfway through pupal development, showing retina (gold), photoreceptor axons (blue), and brain (green); and Cacoxenite (mineral) from La Paloma Mine, Spain.

This year's judges were comprised of top science and media industry experts: Daniel Evanko, Editor, Nature Methods; Martha Harbison, Senior Editor, Popular Science; Dr. Robert D. Goldman, Stephen Walter Ranson Professor and Chair, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Northwestern University and Liza A. Pon, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology and Director, Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource, Columbia University.

In its brief history, the Ewing Gallery of Art & Architecture at The University of Tennessee has strived to acquire works of art and architecture for the educational benefits of our students and faculty and for the enrichment of the Knoxville and East Tennessee communities.

This summer the Ewing Gallery will be organizing a permanent collection exhibition focusing on our abstract art.

Abstract works from the permanent collection will be on display from June 12 - July 12.

The Athens Area Council for the Arts is pleased to present “Not Just a Snapshot, photography by Sheila Silvus Chesanow”, on exhibit from June 10 – July 25, 2013, at The Arts Center, 320 North White Street, Athens, Tennessee.

The photographs in this exhibit represent a series of locales in which a lonesome tree, an abandoned building, or a junked car in the back woods may evoke unexpected feelings and thoughts in the viewer. The artist hopes her photographs will cause the viewer to appreciate the beauty found in everyday scenes when one slows down to take a closer look.

The public is invited to meet the artist at an opening reception at The Arts Center, Friday, June 14, 2013 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Following the reception, two duos of local musicians will perform acoustic sets in a coffee-house style concert, “Soft Sounds for a Summer’s Eve.” Featuring Andrew Kimball and Lindsey Nunley of Athens and Ally and Ashley Clark of Decatur , with Adam Klinker on percussion and special guest Emmy McKenzie, the show will include light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. The concert is sponsored by Hiwassee Builders Supply, Inc.

Clayton Center for the Arts will have free Swing Dancing on the Plaza Monday, June 10 and 24 from 6:30-9:30 PM. Live dance music will be provided by Ensemble Swing Time.

In recent years there has been resurgence of interest in Swing Music and Swing Dance. Ensemble Swing Time allows fans to return to the musical joys and romance that filled the airwaves -- to those ballrooms, nightclubs, college gyms and theaters in which the great bands played. For those who weren't there, they hope to provide a real feeling of the era and its music.

Ensemble Swing Time has been a favorite at the Clayton Center for the Arts, playing to enthusiastic and full crowds in the Summer Music and Cozy Winter Nights Music Series.

Recent works by fiber artist Pat Delashmit and painter Gary Dagnan will be featured during the month of June at the Art Market Gallery in downtown Knoxville.

Pat Delashmit of Maryville has been weaving for more than 25 years and sees endless possibilities with this medium.
Her inspiration comes from East Tennessee’s landscape, a love of the ocean and seashore, and seasonal changes, weather, even the light of day.

Gary Dagnan has been a landscape painter for more than 40 years. He has won numerous awards and his art is represented in many private, corporate and public collections, among them the TVA, Ruby Tuesday and the Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga. The body of work to be displayed in this exhibit is a series of recent paintings entitled “Woodlands.”

A First Friday opening reception for the exhibits is planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 7, with complimentary refreshments and acoustic, folk and blues music on guitar or banjo by Crispy Watkins. Many member artists will be on hand to meet and mingle with visitors.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition featuring over 40 colorful clay paintings by Knoxville artist Regina Renee Turner entitled “Love & Peace: Expressions of the Bible”. To create her clay paintings, Turner drips the paint onto canvas, rarely using any tools in the process. The cracked clay paints lend a feeling of antiquity, and the vibrant colors draw the viewer.

“Love & Peace” by Regina Renee Turner will be on display at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, from June 7-28, 2013.
