KnoxGives is a festival that will showcase Knoxville’s local music and art scene while raising money for the betterment of the Knoxville community. Come and spend your Saturday listening to local bands and perusing local artwork while helping to support organizations that work to make the Knoxville community be the best it can be. This special event is in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association’s TourDeCure. All proceeds will go to local nonprofits including the Tennessee Veterans Business Association, The Downtown Arts Association, Club Blue (The Boys and Girls Club of East Tennessee), and The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee.

Women's Basketball Hall of Fame: Induction

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame will induct its 15th group of inductees, the Class of 2013, in Knoxville, TN. The six members of the Class of 2013 are: Gary Blair (coach), Jim Foster (coach), Peggie Gillom-Granderson (player), Jen Rizzotti (player), Annette Smith-Knight (player), and Sue Wicks (player). With the addition of the Class of 2013, the WBHOF will recognize the Wayland Baptist University Flying Queens from 1953 to 1958 for their contributions to the game in a display at the Hall entitled “Trailblazers of the Game”. The Flying Queens will join the All American Red Heads, Edmonton Grads, and the Former Helms/Citizens Savings/Founders Bank as the only four groups recognized as “Trailblazers of the Game”.

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's Board of Directors serves as the selection committee in determining which individuals will be inducted each year and which groups will be honored as “Trailblazers of the Game”. Voting is based on various factors, which include moral character, integrity, sportsmanship, record of performance, ability, national or international recognition, and contributions to the game of women's basketball.

Judith Tankard has taught at the Landscape Institute, Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University for more than 20 years and is the author of many books on landscape history. She has captured the enduring magic of Gertrude Jekyll's creative genius in a recently publish book, "Gertrude Jekyll and the Country House Garden".

American Diabetes Association: Tour de Cure

The American Diabetes Association is challenging riders to be part of the Stop Diabetes® movement by taking part in their annual cycling event, Tour de Cure®.

Tour de Cure is designed for anyone from the occasional to the experienced cyclist with routes from 10-mile family rides to 100-mile century rides. The route will feature rest stops with food to fuel the journey and volunteers to cheer riders on.

10:00 am TN Naturalist Program: Reptiles
(Ages 16 and up) The Tennessee Naturalist Program is an ongoing series that introduces participants to the wonder of the state's amazing natural resources. This session will focus on the state's scaled residents: the reptiles. We'll explore the world of turtles, snakes, and lizards. Open to registered participants only. 1:00 pm Living Clean & Green: Vertical Gardening
(Recommended for Adults) Let us show you that no space is too small for a garden! Join Ijams resident green thumb, Peg Beute, as she demonstrates the keys to a successful vertical gardening. Vertical gardening is a trend that is on the rise among those with a green thumb. A boon for those with space limitations, this technique can be used to grow fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs on any blank wall or bare fence that needs beautifying.

2:00 pm Live Animal Program
(All Ages) Have you met all the animals that call the Ijams Visitor Center home? If not, be sure to stop by every Saturday for a chance to get nose-to-beak with some of our resident furred and feathered ambassadors. This program is free, but donations to support animal care are welcome.

6:00 pm Family Campout
Join River Sports Outfitters as they host a family campout at Ijams Nature Center. Families will have the opportunity to camp on the lawn, as well as participate in fun outdoor activities such as climbing walls, night hikes, movies and more! Spend some time under the stars and get back to nature with these fun family campouts. Pre-registration is required NO LATER than Thursday, May 16 to reserve your spot. Recent works by fiber artist Pat Delashmit and painter Gary Dagnan will be featured during the month of June at the Art Market Gallery in downtown Knoxville.

Pat Delashmit of Maryville has been weaving for more than 25 years and sees endless possibilities with this medium.
Her inspiration comes from East Tennessee’s landscape, a love of the ocean and seashore, and seasonal changes, weather, even the light of day.

Gary Dagnan has been a landscape painter for more than 40 years. He has won numerous awards and his art is represented in many private, corporate and public collections, among them the TVA, Ruby Tuesday and the Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga. The body of work to be displayed in this exhibit is a series of recent paintings entitled “Woodlands.”

A First Friday opening reception for the exhibits is planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 7, with complimentary refreshments and acoustic, folk and blues music on guitar or banjo by Crispy Watkins. Many member artists will be on hand to meet and mingle with visitors.

Member owned and operated by more than 60 professional regional artists, the Art Market Gallery is located at 422 South Gay St., next to the Downtown Grill & Brewery, and a few doors away from Mast General Store. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday. The gallery is handicapped accessible. UT Downtown Gallery: 50th Anniversary of the Knoxville Watercolor Society

The Knoxville Watercolor Society will celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a show of works at the UT Downtown Gallery. This exhibit will not only highlight works of current members but will also exhibit works by former members who were instrumental in founding the organization, promoting its growth and in expanding the appreciation of aqueous media as a significant art form through their efforts and accomplishments. To commemorate this history, a part of the show will comprised paintings by twelve former members: Robert Birdwell, Richard Clarke, Kermit "Buck" Ewing, George Galloway, Martha Godwin, Arlene Goff, David Joyner, Josephine Mayo, Margaret Scanlan, Walter "Holly" Stevens, Carl Sublett and Betsy Worden.

At the First Friday opening reception on June 7th from 5 to 9 PM, the group will give a tribute to its charter members who founded KWS in 1963, the past presidents who lead the organization over this period and honorary members who have distinguished themselves both through their artistic accomplishments and their service. Light refreshments will be served.

The UT Downtown Gallery is located at 106 S. Gay St. in downtown Knoxville. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition featuring over 40 colorful clay paintings by Knoxville artist Regina Renee Turner entitled “Love & Peace: Expressions of the Bible”. To create her clay paintings, Turner drips the paint onto canvas, rarely using any tools in the process. The cracked clay paints lend a feeling of antiquity, and the vibrant colors draw the viewer.

“Love & Peace” by Regina Renee Turner will be on display at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, from June 7-28, 2013. An opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on June 7 from 5:00-9:00 PM with complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with additional hours on Saturday, June 8, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
