Cades Cove Guided Tour with Bill Landry

Join Bill Landry of "The Heartland Series" for a guided trip around Cades Cove. Bill will share stories, tales and adventures during each tour.

Knox Heritage: Poets for Preservation

Poets for Preservation is a forthcoming spring poetry series presented by Knox Heritage and eight local poets in April and May of 2014. Native Knoxville poets, most residing in the area for 30 years, will perform engaging works about history, home, and new beginnings in celebration of the opening of Historic Westwood at 3425 Kingston Pike. Poets will read in pairs on Saturdays at 3 p.m. in April and May as listed below. Refreshments will be served, and guests are welcome to look around the newly restored mansion after the readings.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: Exhibition by Andrea Wilson

Recipient of the 2014 Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage Artist of the Year Award, Andrea Wilson will have a solo exhibition in the Loggia Gallery at Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts. The Opening Reception will be on Wednesday, April 16th from 5:30 to 7:00pm at Arrowmont in Gatlinburg. Everyone is invited to attend!

Dogwood Arts: Dogwood Art DeTour

Dogwood Art DeTour is a 2-day event where local artists welcome the public into their actual studio space to experience the working creative process as the artist demonstrates the making of a work of art. When it comes to art, the creative process can be just as interesting as the finished product. Dogwood Art DeTour provides an intimate look into local artists’ working studios. Visitors are invited to watch as the artists produce some of East Tennessee’s spectacular works of art. Take some time to enjoy a spring day with the arts. A variety of artistic media will be on display showcasing the diverse talents that are present in this area. All studios will have completed works of art for sale!

Carpetbag Theatre & Clayton Center for the Arts: Companhia Urbana de Dança!

The Carpetbag Theatre along with the Clayton Center for the Arts present Companhia Urbana de Dança! Dança is a dance company from Brazil and they will perform their newest work Eu Dança-8 Solos No Geral at the Clayton Center on Saturday April 12th at 8:00 PM and Sunday April 13th at 4:00 PM. Tickets are $10.00 for students and $15.00 or $25.00 for adults. Ticket prices for students are limited due to reserved seating. Accompanying their performances, Dança is going to give two workshops in the area one at Austin East High School of Knox County on Thursday April 10th and one at Morristown Middle School Friday April 11th.
Founded in Brazil in 2004 by dancer Tiago Sousa and choreographer and Artistic Director Sonia Destri Lie, Companhia Urbana de Dança is an ensemble of street performers working to foster the human experience through dance. Destri's experiences traveling through Europe for work in theater, films exposed her to hip-hop and b-boy techniques. Highly influenced by Brazilian street forms, she began to integrate these techniques into her already established contemporary movement sensibility. Pulling from the favelas of Rio where many of her company members grew up, Companhia Urbana de Dança aims to transcend cultural boundaries, while showcasing eclectic skill sets.

Knoxville Opera: Rossini Festival

The Rossini Festival is dedicated to celebrating the arts with a spectacular feast of dance, music and opera from the Region’s best talent. The Festival drew over 100,000 people from Knox County and the surrounding region in 2012 to showcase our wealth of culture, live entertainment and education with areas for children, culinary offerings, artisan exhibits and much more. The Rossini Festival International Street Fair is offered FREE to the community each year and is almost entirely dependent upon sponsor support for its survival and growth.

Historic Ramsey House: Vintage Baseball League Opening Day

Come on out Knoxville, for the American Pastime as it was played in the beginning. Historic Ramsey House at 2614 Thorn Grove Pike, off Gov John Sevier Hwy, will be hosting the opening of East Tennessee’s first season of Vintage Baseball on Saturday April 12 at 12pm. The opening game will be a double header featuring Oakhill Traveller’s vs The Dry Town Boys of Roan County. In the second game The Knoxville Holston’s vs Franklin Farrier’s. The rules are authentic for that time, the uniforms are period replicas and the laughs are never ending. To mark the opening, the Visitor’s Center will have an exhibit of Vintage Baseball items such as uniforms, bats, ball, gloves, old photos and more. These items will be on display from mid March through April 12th and available to view during our regular hours. The event is open to the public at no charge. Ramsey House will have food and beverages available for sale to those that have the need for traditional ballpark snacks. You need only bring yourself, your family and friends along with lawn chairs or blankets. Come support our local team and enjoy an afternoon of family entertainment, history and fun centered on the game that has been so beloved for generations.

Farragut Book Fest for Children

Get lost in a good book! Presented by the Farragut Arts Council and the Knox County Library Farragut Branch, the seventh annual "Farragut Book Fest for Children" will be Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Founders Park at Campbell Station located next to the Farragut Branch Library on Campbell Station Road.
This educational and entertaining event will offer an array of activities throughout the day, from storytelling to book signings to music. Storytellers will include Laurie Fisher, Lynn Hinkernell and Emagene Reagan. The following local authors will be on hand to meet participants while selling and signing their books: David Boyce, Jean Leigh Claudette, Shawn Kirkpatrick Cline, Sam Darden, David and Mary Faith Enyart, Kathleen E. Fearing, Grant Fetters, Joan Frey, J. Sadie Gray, Gayle Green, Janet Greer, Charles G. Haun, Timothy Joseph, Katy Koontz, Mary Lane McGinnis, Louise Hill Moore, Laura Ogle-Graham, Marilyn Mae Randall, Adele A. Roberts, and Sandi Schulte.
Additional happenings will include art activities, face painting, cookie decorating and the Ruff Reading Program. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character; a character parade throughout the park will be held at 11:30. Magician Michael Messing will be the featured entertainer; musicians Samantha Hatmaker and Conny Ottway will also provide entertainment. The first 400 children will receive free book stickers and a pencil; free hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade will be available beginning at 11 a.m. while supplies last.
In conjunction with this event, the Friends of the Knox County Library will host a used book sale at the Farragut Branch on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, new this year, the Farragut Arts Council asks attendees to donate new and used children's book for East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
