Historic Ramsey House: A Jane Austen Celebration and Tea

10 am - 4 pm - $10 general admission
Readings from Jane Austen’s books and papers in the Historic Ramsey House; demonstrations and visitor participation in Lawn Bowling and Cricket; a Gentleman’s Duel; the Undressing of Mr. Darcy and the Undressing of a Regency Lady; reenactors roaming the grounds; a demonstration of medical care during the Regency Period; tours of the 1797 historic house; period games; period costumes; vendors on the grounds.

11:30 am and 2:00 pm - $20, includes all general admission activities. Two seatings of formal Regency Period tea; costumes encouraged, but not required; dress clothing (Sunday best) suggested; Elizabeth Koester will speak on a Regency Tea as it would have been presented in Jane Austen’s time.

Regency Era Ball with the Lark in the Morn English Country Dancers and live music by the Lark in the Morn Consort. Period costume is admired, but by no means mandatory. We will explore the Regency lens through which one can examine the history of the period, and we invite you to gaze along with us. Light refreshments will be served. English Country Dance lessons will be provided from 2-4 pm.

Take a journey inspired by the exotic isles of Indonesia and encounter the fearsome Komodo Dragon, the world's largest lizard species. The fire-breathing Fantasia begins at 6:30PM with a surprise filled cocktail hour and silent auction followed by an enchanting seated dinner and live auction. Continue the excursion with live entertainment to cap off a one-of-a-kind evening that could only be bought to you by your Knoxville Zoo. $275 per person.

Paulk & Co's 2nd Annual Steampunk Carnivale

Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: Art in the Park

Plan to attend the "Art in the Park" festivities on the grounds of the Plateau Creative Arts Center, 451 Lakeview Drive (off Peavine), on June 7 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Fine art featuring talented artisans and crafters will be displayed for sale, and Big John's BBQ and Nick's Italian Ice will be there to provide food. The afternoon entertainment will be provided by gifted musicians "Spirit Wolf" and family.
The author of the popular "Chester the Chesapeake" Children's Book Series, Barbara Ebel, M.D., will be at this festival, along with her therapy dog, Chester. Visitors may want to bring their children along to see Chester and for personalizing books with an autograph. Stroll through the woods on the new handicapped-accessible Sculpture Walking Trail.
Homemade bread, bakery, cakes, and cookies will be offered inside the PCAC. While visiting the PCAC, check out the Art Gallery displaying pieces from the Judged and Juried Show by the many talented artists from our area.

Knox Heritage: Summer Suppers: City Slickers Urban Wilderness Experience

Join us for a sampling of just a few of the activities available at Outdoor Knoxville. The evening begins at the Outdoor Knoxville headquarters along the Tennessee River where you’ll pick up gourmet trail mix and water to fortify you for your venture into the Urban Wilderness. You’ll have your choice of three adventures. You can take a bike tour along the river—bikes provided—or go on a walking tour of historic downtown sites or just stay put and enjoy the scenery and a paddle boat demonstration on the river. Afterwards, you’ll return to Outdoor Knoxville for appetizers and a buffet dinner by the waterfall as the sun sets over the city. 40 guests, $75.00 per person.
Knox Heritage’s popular series of fundraising dinners, Summer Suppers, takes place annually in some of the region’s most spectacular historic places. The suppers are organized by host committees of volunteers who work together to plan every detail.

River Sports Outfitters, Visit Knoxville and Ijams Nature Center are proud to announce the Knoxville OWN It Summit June 7th, 2014 in Knoxville. This day-long, youth-led summit will connect young Americans to identify, discuss and develop environmental literacy and civic engagement by connecting kids to the outdoors.
OWN It Summits, which are planned and produced entirely by passionate millennial leaders, will address the regional issues preventing young Americans from spending time outdoors, including cultural relevance, access, cost, safety and the environmental health of local outdoor spaces. Delegates will select the most creative and impactful projects that solve these problems to receive funding and support from The Outdoor Foundation. Following each Summit, participants will work together in the community - spearheading the projects, influencing decision-makers and mobilizing people to get active and outdoors. Ultimately, the goal is to create long-term change in the relationships young people have with the outdoors.

Union County Arts: Art On Main festival

Fourth annual Art on Main in downtown Maynardville. Union County Arts, at Main and Mulberry, will be at the center of the festivities. In UCA’s backyard is the Back Porch stage, where Elizabeth Rose, storyteller and comedian, will perform at noon, and Knoxville’s old-time string band, The Bearded, will follow.
Sixty vendors will include demonstrations, food, face painting and lots of handmade items for sale. Free fun for the kids includes rides on the Lil’ Thunder Railroad around the grounds, a livestock exhibit, games and dancing.
Student Art Contest: All area middle and high school students, including recent grads and younger students, are invited to enter 2D artwork, no larger than 16 by 20, in the Art on Main Student Art Contest. Prizes include art supplies and tickets to attractions. One entry per student, and it must arrive at Union County Arts by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5.
Photography Contest: Novice and professional photographers of all ages are invited to enter the Art on Main Photo Contest. Photos must be taken at the event, and submission deadline is June 30. An awards reception will be held in July at the gallery.
Whittler’s Contest: Prize knives will be awarded for the best demonstration of the art of whittlin’. Join in under the shade tree from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Woodfinishing Workshop: Union County’s world renown lifelong woodworker, Lynn Sexton, will be offering a furniture refinishing class during Art on Main. The class covers preparation, stripping and a discussion of stains and finishes, and participants will bring a small piece to restore. The class will be from 2 to 4 p.m. A small fee is charged to cover supplies.
