Knoxville Children's Theatre: Seussical: The Musical

Based on the classic works of Dr. Seuss. Horton the Elephant, The Cat In The Hat, and many more of the beloved characters created by Dr. Seuss will spring to life onstage at Knoxville Children’s Theatre in Seussical, Jr. The play is a musical extravaganza from Tony-winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty that has thrilled audiences all around the world.
Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
Performances are generally Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM.

The quintessential story of family and friendship in a unique Southern sisterhood, Steel Magnolias is a skillfully crafted portrayal of eccentricity, loyalty and love set in a small-town beauty parlor. The play is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters. (Recommended for ages 13+)

WDVX: Tennessee Shines Radio Show

Bonus show! September 19: For the third year, Tennessee Shines Radio Show will be performed live from the Paramount Performing Arts Center in Bristol during the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion festival. Our guests are Willie Watson, the Blue Ridge Entertainers and MSG Acoustic Blues Trio. The show will be broadcast live on WDVX FM and WDVX.com. Admission is included in day and weekend passes to Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.
Tennessee Shines is a weekly radio show performed live for an in-studio audience at the Knoxville Visitor Center Mondays at 7pm and broadcast live on WDVX FM and WDVX.com. Hosts are Bob Deck and Paige Travis. Tickets are $10, free for students with valid ID and children ages 14 and under. Tickets are available in advance at the WDVX Blue Plate Special, noon weekdays and Saturdays at the Knoxville Visitor Center, or at the door beginning at 6 p.m. on the night of the show. Items for sale can also be previewed free of charge during regular museum hours Tuesday September 16-Friday September 19.

Pellissippi State: Knoxville Opera: "Magnifico!"

Pellissippi State Community College hosts the Knoxville Opera Company for the college's first musical concert of the year.
"Magnifico!" is at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Performing Arts Center on the Hardin Valley Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road. The concert will feature performers Kevin Doherty and Sarah Fitch, accompanied by Brian Salesky, Knoxville Opera's executive director and conductor.
The event is free and the community is invited.

Knox Heritage continues its series of educational lunches, Lost & Found, on Friday, September 19th at 11:30 a.m. Guest speakers John Case owner, founder and president of Case Antiques, Inc. will present a fascinating overview of local artists and their place in the current market for regional fine and decorative arts
The Lost & Found Lunch will be held at the new office for Knox Heritage, Historic Westwood – 3425 Kingston Pike. Parking is free and is available in the Laurel Church of Christ parking lot next door – 3457 Kingston Pike.
This event is FREE and open to the public. A free lunch buffet for the first 30 rsvp’s will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 12:00 p.m. Space is limited and advance reservations are required. 4th Annual Storytelling Festival at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, Tennessee. Tickets may be purchased at the door and will be $5.00 per person (GSMHC members and children 5 and under are free).
Talented performers including storytelling by Kim Delozier, a retired GSMNP Wildlife Ranger who will share his stories on managing wildlife in the National Park, and Elizabeth Rose who is a professional storyteller who will keep you spellbound with her stories, and finally Pistol Creek Catch of the Day, a local band.

Knoxville Zoo: Art Gone Wild!

Knoxville Zoo will be hosting a special after-hours event featuring original art and craft created by the zoo’s animal “artists”. Art Gone Wild!, a special show and sale of original paintings and customized gift items will be held at Knoxville Zoo. (This special event is for guests 18 and up.)
At Art Gone Wild!, attendees can enjoy wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres while shopping for original works of art and craft created by the zoo’s animals as part of the zoo’s animal enrichment program. All proceeds from Art Gone Wild! fund the zoo’s enrichment program, which is an integral part of the zoo’s animal husbandry practices that ensures the physical and psychological well-being of the animals in the zoo’s care.
