With a style best described as a mixture of folk and bluegrass, Jay Clark’s handcrafted lyrics run the gamut of hard living, hard drinking, civil disobedience, and old-time religion. As the son of a Cumberland Presbyterian minister from Winchester, Tennessee, Jay’s devout religious upbringing is apparent in his songwriting.

Boot Scootin' Ball Benefit

All proceeds benefit Knoxville Area Project Access, a broad-based community charity created by the Knoxville Academy of Medicine Foundation to provide access to health care for low-income, uninsured individuals in Knox County.

Tennessee Mountain Writer's 28th Annual Conference

"Word by Word," is the theme of the Tennessee Mountain Writers' 28th Annual Conference, scheduled Thursday through Saturday, April 7-9, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Oak Ridge.

Conference workshop presenters will include Sonja Livingston, Nonfiction; Michael Knight, Fiction and General Session speaker; Jesse Graves, Poetry; Courtney Stevens, Writing for Young People; Denton Loving, Editing. Special sessions will be conducted by Beverly Connor, Keeping Series Books Fresh; Robert Gipe, Oral History Projects; Saundra Kelley, Storytelling; Bob Mayer, Self-publishing; Judy DiGregorio and Cathy Kodra, From Preparation to Publication. Keynote speaker at the awards banquet, the concluding event of the conference, will be award winning writer Sonja Livingston.

Early registration fees before March 24 are $185 for full conference ; $150 for all day sessions Friday and Saturday; single sessions are $30 each; banquet only, $35. Prices after March 24 are $200 for full conference; other prices remain the same. Students (high school and full time college) may attend full conference for $50. The Sundress Academy for the Arts: Scruffy ‘Scapes and Sonnets

Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA) invites you to Scruffy ‘Scapes and Sonnets, an art and poetry exhibit featuring two-dimensional art depicting the scruffy city of Knoxville, TN and the sonnets that were written with the pieces of art in mind.

SAFTA introduces this exhibit from 6 to 8 p.m. in Preservation Pub’s second floor Speakeasy. This event will feature a reception with the artists as well as a reading from the featured poets. Please join us as we celebrate the tremendous amount of talent that Knoxville holds!

The show itself runs from April 1 through May 5, 2016 and features photography by Michelle Jephcott, Jessica Hanneken, Anita Koester, Keith Norris, and Shae Hacker, paintings by Starr Cline and Dawn Hawkins, and sonnets by nationally-acclaimed poets Kristi Maxwell, Chris Petruccelli, Ben McClendon, Keri Withington, Erin Elizabeth Smith, and more!

Broadway Studios and Gallery: Work by Owen Weston

Birdhouse Bird Feeder Gallery: A celebration of the artwork of Susanne C. Barrie

A celebration of the artwork of Susanne C. Barrie (née Susan Jenkins). Selected drawings and prints will be on exhibit from April 1-30th. The exhibit’s opening reception is on April 8th from 6-9 pm.

Susanne earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University. Susanne traveled the world honing her skills as an artist/printmaker, with extensive travel and work in Mexico, Europe, and Japan. Susanne moved to Knoxville in the early 1980s where she has been a long-time, active member of the local arts community.
