The MSFM, a project of Nourish Knoxville, is an open-air farmers’ market located on historic Market Square in the heart of downtown Knoxville. We are a producer only market – everything is either made, grown or raised by our vendors all within a 150 mile radius of the MSFM. Products vary by the season and include ornamental plants, vegetable and herb starts, produce, dairy, eggs, honey, meats, baked goods, jams/jellies, coffee, & artisan crafts.

With interactive fountains, live entertainment, delicious local groceries and tasty lunch options from some of Knoxville’s best food trucks, the MSFM is a perfect family destination. For events, please visit our special events page.

Knox County Public Library is pleased to present Reverend Christopher R. Battle, Sr., Tabernacle Baptist Church and Chris Woodhull, former Knoxville City Councilman, for a discussion of Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates at noon on Wednesday, May 4 in the East Tennessee History Center auditorium, 601 South Gay Street, in this month’s Books Sandwiched In, a program series sponsored by the Friends of Knox County Public Library.

Between the World and Me is a letter that Coates writes to his adolescent son about how to be black in America. Coates tells his son, “This is your country, this is your world, this is your body, and you must find some way to live within the all of it." Pivoting from the biggest questions about American history and ideals to the most intimate concerns of a father for his son, he offers a powerful new framework for understanding our nation’s history and current crisis. Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race,” a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and men—bodies exploited through slavery and segregation, and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion.

Coates shares with his son—and readers—the story of his awakening to the truth about his place in the world through a series of revelatory experiences, from Howard University to Civil War battlefields, from the South Side of Chicago to Paris, from his childhood home to the living rooms of mothers whose children’s lives were taken as American plunder.

Pastor Battle currently serves as the Moderator of the Knoxville Baptist District Association and as Vice President of the Knoxville Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.

Chris Woodhull has over 20 years of inner-city experience and was the founder of TRIBE ONE, an at-risk urban youth ministry in Knoxville, Tenn.

The series will continue on May 18 when the Honorable Pamela Reeves, United States District Court, will discuss Sisters in Law: How Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsberg went to the Supreme Court and Changed the World by Linda Hirshman. On June 22, Dr. Annette Mendola, UT Department of Philosophy, will discuss Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande. On July 27, Dr. Margaret Lazarus Dean, UT Department of English, will discuss her own book Leaving Orbit: Notes from the Last Days of American Spaceflight.

Members of the Art Market Gallery who are also members of the Tennessee Watercolor Society (TNWS) will be our featured artists for the month of May. The Art Market Gallery is a unique gallery in Knoxville because it is owned and operated by more than 60 of the best professional artists in our regional area. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. Maryville College fine art majors will be hosting a group show to present their thesis artwork in both two and three dimensional mediums. The gallery will be open to the public in Clayton A and B with a reception for the show on May 13 from 6-8pm.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is exhibiting works by its staff members – Jeda Barr, Nick DeFord, Kelly Sullivan, Vickie Bradshaw, Bill Griffith, Kelly Hider, Jennifer Blackburn, Ernie Schultz, Heather Ashworth, Laura Tuttle, Bob Biddlestone and Jason Burnett. Although Arrowmont staff members are not required to have a background in art – many are makers, craftspeople and artists. Arrowmont is proud to showcase works by its talented staff, demonstrating their passion and support for the arts and crafts community.

The exhibit showcases work in a range of media including paper, ceramics, woodworking, drawing, bookmaking, quilting and collage. The exhibit is on view in the Geoffrey A. Wolpert Gallery. Admission is free and the community is encouraged to attend with their friends and family.

Kathie's third solo exhibition with the gallery, "Along the Way" is a collection of works in oil featuring simple and nostalgic scenes that too often go unnoticed. Kathie’s paintings are timeless interpretations of the atmosphere, light, and story in the landscape around her.
