Once again, it is time to take it off for a good cause! Round up your lady friends and get painted! 100% of the proceeds go to help local women who are battling cancer. We kindly ask for a $10 donation to participate as a human canvas for this empowering and fun event. No appointments necessary, as painting is first come first served. You are welcome to bring a drink of your choice. We will be painting and partying from 11-6 on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22! Our cause has an effect and we would love for you to join us!

Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center: Gala Fundraising Event

Preparations are well underway for the 2016 "Heritage Happening" Gala fundraising event. The event will be held on the grounds of the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend on Saturday, May 21, 2016. The gala consists of both silent and live auctions as well as an elegant dinner catered by Rothchild Catering of Knoxville. "Bright Past, Brighter Future" is the theme for this event and it truly represents our celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Heritage Center opening, and the exciting new exhibits which will open this year. A new Transportation Station will house a diverse collection of transportation related artifacts, and the new National Parks exhibit will showcase the unique experiences to be had at the five East Tennessee National Parks.
The Heritage Center Guild was founded by a group of twenty-one women in 2003 whose goal was to help raise funds for the construction of the museum. Today, our fund-raising activities focus on providing a number of outstanding educational opportunities for school children from East Tennessee. Each year we provide hands-on experiences and educational programs for more than 8,000 students.
The wide array of unique and lovely items to be auctioned off this year includes beautiful artwork from area artisans, destination vacation trips, along with wine, food and dining experiences.
Invitations will be mailed in April to Heritage Center members and past attendees, but all are welcome to purchase tickets by calling the Heritage Center at 865-448-0044. Tickets are $125.00 per person, $90 of which is tax deductible. Seating is limited to 350 people, so make your reservations early.
The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center is 501 c 3 Museum and Cultural Center.
The Heritage Center is open Monday thru Saturday 10 am - 5 pm and on Sunday 12 noon to 5 pm. starting April 3 through December 2016.
Admission is free for Heritage Center members, Adults $7.00, Seniors 60 plus and children ages 6 - 17 $5.00, children 5 and under are free.
Closed Easter, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center is a not for profit museum and is located between the traffic light and the national park entrance, on scenic Highway 73.

Come dressed in your Downton Abbey best, after all, "One's finery should always be on display."

Knoxville Writers' Guild: Outdoor Writing Workshop

Outdoor writer and columnist for the Knoxville Mercury, Kim Trevathan, will teach an outdoor writing workshop to outdoor enthusiasts on May 21. Writers will learn how to construct outdoor adventures and how to multipurpose the content for different genres.
Trevathan is author of "Paddling the Tennessee River: A Voyage on East Water," "Coldhearted River: A Canoe Odyssey Down the Cumberland," and "Liminal Zones: Where Lakes End and Rivers Begin." He also teaches writing at Maryville College. His books will be available to purchase at the workshop and one will be raffled off to attendees.
The event, which will be open to the public, will be May 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third Ave. in the multipurpose room. Attendees should enter off of the large parking lot behind the church. Accessible parking is available.

Knox County Public Library's 12th Annual Children's Festival of Reading

The Spy Guy, a not so secret agent, is joining Danny Dragonbreath and the very curious Ladybug Girl in World’s Fair Park to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer. Knox County Public Library invites readers of all ages to celebrate 12 years of the Children’s Festival of Reading! This year’s Festival will host some of the most popular and acclaimed children’s authors and illustrators in the country. Headlining the day are David Soman, illustrator of the very popular Ladybug Girl picture book series and Ursula Vernon of the Dragonbreath graphic novel series. Joining them are Joseph Bruchac (The Hunter's Promise: An Abenaki Tale), Vince Vawter (Paperboy), Matthew Cordell (Trouble Gum), Floyd Cooper (Max and the Tag-Along Moon), and Jessica Young (My Blue is Happy and Spy Guy) and Molly Ledford of the Grammy-nominated band, Lunch Money.
The Children's Festival of Reading celebrates the literary arts with six performance stages, a Science Village, a Parade of Books, Jr. League of Knoxville’s Kids in the Kitchen, arts and crafts, One World Circus, book sales, 50 community booths, food, music, storytelling, and tons of fun. Readers of all ages are encouraged to sign up for a summer of reading in one of the Library's summer reading clubs.

Here's the deal. You purchase a ticket to a mystery event. Show up to The Central Collective at the specified date and time, and be ready for anything. You might walk into a baby goat petting zoo, or a punk rock concert, or a blind chocolate tasting, or a lecture about the Big Bang. These are events for folks who are curious, adventurous, and like trying new things & meeting new people.
Worried that you won't be able to participate because of food/alcohol restrictions, physical ability or other preferences? We'll do our best to give you the information you need to decide if this month's Good Sport Night is right for you. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to give us a shout! If you show up and cannot participate for an unforeseen reason, we're happy to give you a credit for a future Good Sport Night.

Fountain City Art Center: Fountain City Art Guild Spring Show and Sale

The Fountain Cty Art Center is proud to host the annual "Fountain City Art Guild's Spring Show and Sale". The
Guild now juries in both 2-D and 3-D artists. In addition to the Guild show, the Art Center is exhibiting a vibrant watercolor show with works by the students of Mary Baumgartner. The student show bears the same name as Mary's watercolor classes: "The Wonderful World of Watercolor."
The reception for both exhibits will be held from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, May 20. Everyone is invited; no admission is charged. Light refreshments will be served.

Oak Ridge Academy of Dance "40th Anniversary Celebration"

The Oak Ridge Academy of Dance Evening Extravaganza entitled “Let’s Celebrate!” will be presented at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 7:00pm. The performance is the 40th Anniversary Performance for the Academy. It is a varied dance production which encompasses all forms of dance; Classical Ballet and Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and HipHop. The Evening is filled with exciting and moving dances. Dancers in this performance range in age from 10 years old to 70 years old. These dancers are joined in the performance by the Contemporary Dance Ensemble Nationals Team as guest artists. Their advanced dance abilities will amaze and delight the audience. The production consists of two full length acts with an intermission in between.

The performers range in age form 3 year olds to 10 year olds. The adorable antics of the 3 year olds have the audience at the edge of their seats with their carefree frolics. Guest Artists in this performance are members of the Contemporary Dance Ensemble Nationals Team. Their advanced dance abilities will amaze and enchant the audience. The production consists of two full length acts with an intermission in between.
Contemporary Dance Ensemble Spring Concert Saturday, May 21, 2016 @ 7:00pm The Contemporary Dance Ensemble will present their 40th annual Spring Concert this season on Saturday, May 21, 2016 7:00pm at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. The performance is the 40th Anniversary Performance. The Ensemble is a non-profit dance organization dedicated to the performance and preservation of the art of dance. All Dance Ensemble members are advanced dance students who range in age from 10 years through college age. The Ensemble highlights the performance with solos from their graduating seniors. This year’s performance is a collage of different modes and emotions. The evening swirls with a mixture of oldies but goodies in celebration of their 40 years and, of course, the newest in contemporary dance styles are showcased. The production consists of two full length acts with an intermission in between.
