LIZ MANDEVILLE & THE BLUE POINTS
Thursday, November 7, 7:00-10:00PM.
Chicago Blues Hall of Fame Artist and winner of the Windy City Blues Challenge, Liz Mandeville has a powerhouse voice and great songs (original & covers). She's a wiz on guitar & Louisiana Rub-board! Liz has Etta James' versatility, Tina Turner's showmanship, Bette Midler's vintage look and humor and Aretha's big, soulful alto. Her guitar playing borrows from Albert Collins, Hubert Sumlin, Lightnin Hopkins and Billy Gibbons. All of Liz's music feature her warmth and wit and are crafted from her personal experiences as much as from research into different eras and regional blues from the last century. A diminutive redhead, she grew up on a two-lane highway on the outskirts of Chicago in a haunted house. She brings to the stage a giant presence that's impossible to resist.. She and her band will get you up & dancing. These blues make you happy!

East Tennessee Historical Society: Lecture - WWII Bombardier's True Story
Category: Free event, History, heritage, Lecture, panel and Literature, spoken word, writing
A Fortress and a Legacy: The Gift of a WWII Bombardier's True Story to the Daughter He Never Met | Lecture & Book Signing with J. Ross Greene
J. Ross Greene will discuss his book, A Fortress and a Legacy, which combines engaging dialogue and historical accuracy with the pathos of a family torn by war. The heart and soul of the story is an exchange of more than 1,000 letters between Knoxville native and B-17 bombardier Lt. Ross W. "Bud" Perrin and his bride, Thelma, who was both Miss Knoxville and a 1940 Miss America contestant. With his six-plus years of extensive research Greene has breathed new life into words scrawled on pages seven decades past, rendering them as relevant and compelling today as they were then. This captivating oral presentation has stirred the imagination and emotions of thousands of people across the U.S. and Europe. Book signing to follow.
The lecture is sponsored by the Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel and is free and open to the public and will begin at noon at the East Tennessee History Center. Guests are invited to bring a "Brown Bag" lunch and enjoy the lecture. Soft drinks will be available.

UT School of Art: Artist-in-Residence Lecture
Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Free event and Lecture, panel
The School of Art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, welcomes the community to attend a public lecture by Tracy Thomason, the fall 2019 painting + drawing artist-in-residence, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 7.
Her lecture will be held in conjunction with the Ewing Gallery’s AIR Retrospective, an exhibition that showcases work from the Ewing Gallery permanent collection by past UT School of Art artists-in-residence.
The school's artist-in-residence program was initiated in 1982 to bring an artist to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in the painting + drawing curriculum. The program has been highly successful in making a direct connection to the marketplace of ideas that surrounds art centers such as New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
Thomason is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work has shown at the Marinaro Gallery, Teen Party, Cuevas Tilleard Gallery in New York City, Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Philadelphia, and Blyth Gallery in London. The New Yorker wrote, "though executed on linen, her spare and abstruse abstractions seem to be something other than paintings … Throughout, Thomason seems to be obeying her own strict, if secret, rules.”
