Nief Norf: Virtual Norf Space

If we cannot venture from our houses, we will bring new and adventurous sounds straight to your living room! Experience great chamber music from Julius Eastman and Philip Glass, to Kate Soper and Joanna Bailie in selected concert videos from Nief-Norf and our Summer Festival. Around 40 works will be shared with you in this web special. Plus, we are proud to present Nief-Norf ensemble members in a livestream performance each week.
New videos will be posted around lunchtime every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The livestream performances will happen at 7:30 p.m. Eastern ("doors open" at 7:00 p.m.) on each Wednesday. We recommend opening each video into full screen to have the best experience.

Seven Islands State Birding Park: 1st Annual Photo Competition & Exhibition: Call for Entries

The Friends of Seven Islands State Birding Park announce a call for entries for its 1st annual Juried Photo Competition and Exhibition. The Competition was developed to promote the beauty and diversity of Seven Islands State Birding Park and to provide a forum for photographic artists to compete on a regional scale and display their work. Approximately 10 – 12 fine art works will receive monetary awards and will comprise an exhibition on the North Wall gallery of the beautifully restored Emporium Center at 100 S. Gay Street from September 1-30, 2020. The Emporium is free and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and other hours for special events.
The deadline for entries to be received is midnight, Sunday, May 31, 2020. Prizes include at least $1,000 in cash awards, and winning artists will have the opportunity for their imagery to be displayed in a variety of local galleries following the initial display and awards presentation at the Emporium Center.

Ewing Gallery: 2020 Honors Exhibitions online

Initiated by the Ewing's Director Sam Yates 30 years ago, this exhibition recognizes outstanding students graduating from The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Art.
Selected by a School of Art Faculty Scholarship committee, seven art students from various art disciplines were chosen from the qualifying applicants for this year's exhibition. These students are Celine Gobert, Mera Ragsdale, Juniper Teffeteller, Shannon Frisco, Ali Bhimani, Nicole Gentry, and Dannie Trevino.

What's the CARES Act? Free Webinar Series

The What's The CARES Act? bi-weekly webinar series launched last week in an effort to help Knoxville and East Tennessee businesses take full advantage of the CARES Act federal relief programs and billions of dollars allocated by Congress. This free online series, supported by the City of Knoxville and other local partners, streams live every other Friday, and recordings of the webinars are made available to the public. Local experts Haseeb Qureshi and Adrienne Webster provide much-needed clarity and updates about the CARES Act and engage in live Q&A with attendees.
Remaining webinars will take place live via streaming platform Lunchpool on May 8 and 22, June 5 and 16, and July 3 at 10 AM.

Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: Exhibition by Cumberland and Stone Mountain High Schools**

The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will sponsor a special art display for the month of May! Call the Center for hours.
The original art of the graduating seniors that was displayed at the Crossville Art Circle Library in February and March will be shown at the PCAC. During the display at the Art Circle Library, ballots were available for voting to determine the favorite choices of the viewing public.
The home of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade, the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC), will re-open May 1 with limited hours: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm for Monday-Friday. The hours will be kept through May 15. Starting May 16, normal hours of 9:00 am – 4:00 pm will resume. Browse through the displays of paintings, photography, woodwork, jewelry, glass mosaics, ceramics, and one-of-a-kind cards. All displayed artwork is available for purchase.

In order to complete the MFA program, all graduate students are required to present an exhibition or other public presentation of their work during the semester of graduation. Unfortunately, due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the class of 2020 was unable to have public exhibitions of their work. This webpage showcases the amazing work that these students made for their thesis exhibitions.
