Blue Heron Art Collective: Classes for Kids
Category: Classes, workshops, Exhibitions, visual art and Kids, family
Online, live, interactive classes featuring how-to videos with art teachers Karen Bertollini and Betsy Hobkirk.
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN JANUARY? Save your cardboard for this GREAT Session! It’s all about recycling, constructing and ART! Hang on to cardboard boxes such as packaging, food boxes, any sort of roll, and cardboard egg cartons to prepare for this class.
One of the most important elements of our Sessions is our How-To videos. Our students can watch these videos at their own pace during the 3-week session. Our videos are intended to guide creative thought, rather than show specific step by step instruction. As educators, it is important to us that students create their OWN art, rather than what we think they should do. Our philosophy is to teach for artistic behavior, referred to as CHOICE.
Safe art tool usage is very important to us as well. When needed, we include age appropriate safety videos. Learn more at www.artblueheron.com or artblueheron@gmail.com

Twenty-nine artists of The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade in Crossville are proud and excited to present an exhibition of recent works in a variety of media such as glass mosaic, jewelry, fiber works, leather, wood, mixed media, pottery, painting, and photography. This new member exhibition amplifies the Guild’s goals of “Teach, Learn & Inspire” and supporting many forms of visual arts.
The Guild is almost as old as Fairfield Glade itself. In 1978 twelve residents/artists in Fairfield Glade came together to form an art guild. In the 42 years, the Guild has grown to a membership of approximately 180 individuals from across Tennessee. Through the years, the Guild met in several locations until its move to the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC) in April of 2008. It is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, an equal opportunity provider, and offers original art and unique gifts for viewing and for sale. The Guild and PCAC are located at 451 Lakeview Drive in Fairfield Glade. For more information, visit www.artguildfairfieldglade.net.
The exhibitions are on display at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, in downtown Knoxville. The Emporium is open to the public Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Women of the Bible: Portraits of Beauty, Audacity, & Faith by LaShonda Scott Robinson

Women of the Bible: Portraits of Beauty, Audacity, & Faith by LaShonda Scott Robinson
A woman has been an enigma since her creation. What is her purpose? Is she man’s equal? Is she the weaker sex? Women of the Bible celebrates the ingenuity, audacity, and faith of our biblical fore-mothers. Sometimes the Bible records a single incident. Some names are unknown. Yet, their stories are inspiring. I created this collection of watercolor and metallic acrylic to celebrate God’s most beautiful, complex, and resilient creation: WOMAN.
Based in Alabama, LaShonda Scott Robinson is a watercolor artist. Art expresses her intimate feelings. A woman of color, she was taught to conceal weakness. Through art, she can openly cry without shedding a tear. Self-taught, her watercolor style is sensuous and dark. Body language expresses the truth. Therefore, the faces are blank. Robinson believes “the face reveals our thoughts whereas the body reveals our hearts.” Her work has exhibited in Alabama, Florida, New York, South Carolina, Monaco, and Switzerland.

Museum of Appalachia: Winter Wednesday Discount Program
Category: History, heritage, Kids, family and Science, nature
The Museum of Appalachia, open year-round, is an internationally acclaimed living history village and farm, home to a rare collection of early pioneer log structures and thousands of artifacts from the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Each Wednesday, during the months of January and February, the Museum welcomes guests for half the standard admission rate.
Winter is an exceptional time on the Museum grounds, and the season’s mantle has provided an exquisite backdrop. Now is the perfect opportunity to stroll the grounds and admire the primitive beauty of the season, and ponder with amazement, the hardiness of these simple pioneer people who thrived on such a meager existence, in such difficult conditions.
After touring, sit by the fire and enjoy a hot, hearty, Southern, home-cooked lunch. The Museum's quaint restaurant offers fresh, home-made, specials, created each day with only the finest ingredients, and served with true Southern hospitality; and concluded with a choice from the tantalizing selection of mouth‐watering, homestyle desserts.
Spend the afternoon in one the Museum’s indoor venues, including the Hall of Fame, home to the extensive collection of Appalachian exhibits of musical instruments and memorabilia, Native American relics, the perpetual motion machine, hand-stitched quilts, collections of both famous and infamous regional personalities, and so much more.
Browse the Shop at the Museum of Appalachia which features crafts and handiwork from Appalachian artisans, books authored by regional writers and unique Southern and "Made in the USA" gifts.
The Museum allows for social distancing throughout, with many outdoor exhibits, and plenty of space in the expansive exhibit buildings.
A non-profit, Smithsonian affiliated organization, the Museum’s mission is to preserve the artifacts and culture of an earlier time for the benefit of future generations; and to instill in the community –regionally, nationally, and internationally – a greater knowledge of, and appreciation for, the Southern Appalachian heritage.
Adult and children admission tickets are half price, discounted admission will not be combined with any other offer. Group and school admissions, please call for reservations, 865-494-7680.
The Museum is located 16 miles North of Knoxville at I-75, exit, 122, then one mile East. For more information, call 865-494-7680, or visit the website at www.museumofappalachia.org.
