Save the Date – June 14-18, 2021

String Camp provides an opportunity for new orchestra players to become oriented with ensemble playing and gives players with experience a week of great music making and fun during the summer off-season. Students are placed randomly based on experience and application information. Please make sure you meet all the requirements for the level for which you apply. We strive to keep the competitive feel out of the camp program and put no emphasis on seating and placement, but will move a student in his/her best interest if the level they are in appears too challenging and stressful. Knoxville Children's Theatre: Auditions for The Hobbit

Category: Auditions, Free event, Kids, family and Theatre

Knoxville Children’s Theatre (KCT) will hold auditions on Monday, June 14 for our upcoming production of The Hobbit, a live stage adaptation of the novel by J. R. R. Tolkien.

There are at least 20 available roles, including excellent roles for both boys and girls. The minimum age to audition is 8 years old, and the maximum age is 18. There are four roles for actors making their KCT debuts.

Bilbo, one of the most conservative of all Hobbits, is asked to leave his large, roomy and very dry home in the ground in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. It's the last thing that any sensitive Hobbit would want to do, but great benefit eventually results - not only for Bilbo but for all of the Hobbits who inhabit Middle Earth - and the hearts of those children and adults who continue to enjoy this kind of magical fantasy.

The audition will take place from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at KCT at 109 E. Churchwell Avenue.

Auditions are by appointment only. Auditionees may choose from the following appointment times: 4:30 PM, 5:00 PM, 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:00 PM, and 7:30 PM. Six auditionees will be seen at each appointment time; a maximum of 42 auditionees will be seen.

Auditionees should prepare a SHORT one-minute monologue from a published play or novel. The monologue should express intense emotion and a theatrical level of expression. The play’s genre is dramatic fantasy. Choose a monologue appropriate for the genre of the play; choose a piece with rich emotional ranges. No songs or poems. Monologues will be evaluated on volume, clarity of speech, depth of emotional expression, and ability of physical transformation.

Rehearsals will begin on Wednesday June 30, continuing through Thursday, August 12.
Actors must also be available for all 14 regular performances: August 13 - 29, Thursdays through Sundays. Shows are held Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM & 5 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM.

To register for an audition, please use the online form at https://knoxvillechildrenstheatre.com/register-for-an-audition/
No phone calls for appointments, please. You will find some helpful tips for your audition by visiting our website: https://knoxvillechildrenstheatre.com/audition-tips/

Auditionees will receive detailed instructions for their audition submission AFTER they submit the online form.

Monday, June 14, 2021, 7 – 8 p.m. on Zoom

Fifty years ago, community leaders cut the ribbon on the "new" Lawson McGhee Library, providing a much-needed anchor to the Knox County Public Library system. The innovative building has echoes all over town. Bruce McCarty was a champion of modernist architecture, and he changed the city scape forever. From Clarence Brown Theatre and the Cumberland Avenue pedestrian bridge to TVA Towers and the City County Building, McCarty's work represents some of the most iconic places in Knoxville.

Join MHM architects Doug McCarty and Nathan Honeycutt for examination of the impact and evolution of Bruce McCarty's designs.

This event is free to the public, but advanced registration is required. Register at https://kcpl.wufoo.com/forms/p3irvv0anrvip/
