Zoo Knoxville: Zoo Camp

Zoo Knoxville offers a variety of day camps throughout the year. Camp activities include animal interactions, games, crafts, fun activities, excursions through the zoo and trips behind-the-scenes to learn how we care for zoo animals. Click below for more information about each camp.

Zoo Knoxville is following CDC guidelines for daycares and following the guidance of Knox County Health Department. These measures include increased hand washing/sanitizing throughout the day and increased cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces. Classrooms will be disinfected daily and camps will be kept separate from each other. All camp staff and campers will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 each day before being allowed to attend camp.

City of Knoxville: Kid A’ Riffic Fun in the Park

Starting in June, the City of Knoxville Office of Special Events and Parks and Recreation will host Kid A’ Riffic Fun in the Park in eight different City parks.

Families are invited to participate in crafts, games and other activities on Wednesdays in June and July from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the following parks:

June 2 - Suttree Landing Park, 1001 Waterfront Drive
June 9 - Victor Ashe Park, 4901 Bradshaw Rd

Ijams Nature Center: Cicada Walk and Talks

This free online event at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2nd will bring together experts from both museums to highlight priceless objects in both of our collections which relate to William Blount, John Sevier, and the beginning of Tennessee statehood in 1796.

East Tennessee Historical Society: Stories Matter Brown Bag program

“Stories Matter: My Journey of Learning to Love History”

Join the East Tennessee Historical Society on June 2, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom as we welcome Tate Greene, National History Day (NHD) gold medalist and Clayton-Bradley STEM Academy senior, to chronicle his discovery of the power and relevance of regional stories in the academic study of American history. Tate’s NHD award-winning documentaries cover topics related to East Tennessee and Appalachian history and culture.

For his “Stories that Matter” presentation, Tate will discuss how he became involved with the National History Day program and developed a seven-year relationship with the East Tennessee Historical Society which coordinates the East Tennessee Regional competition. He will share the lessons he has learned about the power of local and regional stories and how he will continue his exploration of history as he begins his studies at Dartmouth College in the fall.

This program is one in a series of Zoom Brown Bag programs and Saturday lectures to be offered this spring and summer, sponsored by the Albers Family Foundation in memory of Harriet Z. Albers and by Gentry-Griffey Funeral Home in Knoxville. The East Tennessee Historical Society is privileged to share regional history with our members and the public.

Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: June Classes & Workshops

Paint Along with Sam Hill, watercolor demonstration class, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Cost is $20 for AG members or $25 for guests. Students should bring their own watercolor supplies. Number of students: minimum is 4, maximum is 9.

Project Discussion, a bi-monthly artwork review session. Assess the artwork of participants and/or selected artwork in the gallery. The facilitator is John Anderson. 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. FREE and open to the public. Bring your artwork or just observe the session.

“Chain Maille Jewelry: Glory Bracelet,” with George Gallant. 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Registration and materials cost (including a $25 materials fee) is $55 for members or $60 for guests. Number of students: minimum is 2, maximum is 6.

Jungue Journal with Louise Goodman. 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Registration and materials cost (including $10 materials fee) is $40 for members or $45 for guests. Number of students: minimum is 3, and maximum is 8.

Wine & Paint Class “Live to Inspire, with Barb Pelak. 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. All art materials (acrylic paint, brushes, canvas) are provided, participants need only to bring their favorite wine and wine glass! Cost is $30 for members or $35 for guests. Maximum number of students is 8.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30
Life Drawing, with Dena Whitener, 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. A live model will be available for artists to sketch. Bring your sketch pad, media of choice, and camera to capture the pose. Cost is $5 model fee.

Guild of the Knoxville Museum of Art: Studio Visit with Jeanne Kidd

In April, the Guild of the Knoxville Museum of Art held a virtual Studio Visit with Knoxville stone sculptor Jeanne Kidd. Kidd is an internationally recognized master stone sculptor whose works honor family legacy, emotional healing, and a passion for the material.

This virtual visit consists of two prerecorded videos: an interview with the artist and a demonstration of her stone sculpting techniques.

TN 225th March and Celebration
Blount Mansion (200 W. Hill Ave.), 1:30-3pm (march participants gather at James White’s Fort at 1:00 pm)
Join Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon, musicians, historical reenactors, and local students for a march from James White’s Fort (where Knoxville began) to Blount Mansion (where Tennessee was born), followed by a short ceremony, refreshments, and an opportunity to sign your name with a quill pen atop the 1796 Tennessee Statehood Desk in Gov. William Blount’s Office. Blount Mansion will be open free of charge following the ceremony. Event co-sponsored by Blount Mansion, City of Knoxville, and Historic House Museums of Knoxville.

Dr. Chris Magra, professor of early American history at the University of Tennessee, will explore how conflict and compromise brought different people together and made it possible for Tennessee to become the sixteenth state in the Union in 1796.
