Becky Chaffee: Have Fun With Your Music - Reading & Discussion

  • June 26, 2021

Category: Free event, Kids, family, Literature, spoken word, writing and Music

June 26 1:30PM at Knoxville Soap, Candle & Gifts, 714 S. Gay St.

Encourage your young musicians to make practicing their own (ages 4 to 8). Local author, Becky Chaffee, will read her book, Have Fun With Your Music, and discuss practicing on Saturday. Here are comments that Becky has received from music teachers about her book:

A local music teacher read my book to her class and sent me this letter:

"Your book is absolute perfection. The children laughed, praised, smiled, clapped, oooo-ed, and awww-ed in joyous approval! These children are third grade students. You know it’s 5-star quality when children can’t get enough! Thank you, thank you, Mrs. Chaffee! You should win all the children’s book awards the world has to offer for creating such a fresh concept of a book!" (Then she asked me to create a book on World Music of similar style!) Natalie Kimbro, Sacred Heart Cathedral School General Music and Orchestra Teacher
---------------------------------------
“Need Practice Tips? Great book for practice inspiration. (Doesn't everyone need this?) Great illustrations with creative practice tips. Love this book and want all of my students to see it and BUY it. Great job, Becky Chaffee!" --- Fay Adams, named 2016 Music Teacher of the Year by the Music Teacher National Association (Fay Adams is UTK Piano Professor Emeritus)
---------------------------------------
Two music school teachers purchased second and third orders from Idaho and from Iowa. One sent this note:
"I’m the violin teaching daughter of two art professors. I just love your art work. The book illustrates just how I want my kids to look at the world and the music in it. There are just endless magical possibilities.
Thank you- Mary Neumann"

Tennessee Theater: Summer Movie Magic - Casablanca

Category: Film and Kids, family

Summer Movie Magic presented by Denark Construction is a long-standing tradition celebrating our legacy as a movie palace. Moviegoers will travel back in time and see these classics, as they should be: in a historic theater originally built as a movie palace surrounded by other movie-lovers, enjoying some popcorn and a cold drink. This year, we are pulling out all the stops with a lineup of blockbuster hits! And true to tradition, hear the Mighty Wurlitzer organ fill the auditorium with magnificent music prior to the movie. Experience some of your favorite classics on the big screen!

June 25, 8 PM and June 27, 3 PM: Casablanca
Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), who owns a nightclub in Casablanca, discovers his old flame Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) is in town with her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid). Laszlo is a famed rebel, and with Germans on his tail, Ilsa knows Rick can help them get out of the country. (Rotten Tomatoes) This film is 1 hr 42 mins and is rated PG.

We are also excited to announce that Flying Anvil has partnered with Positively Living & Choice Health Network, East Tennessee’s premier public health nonprofit headquartered right here in Knoxville, to be joint beneficiaries of the proceeds from this show.

Love, Loss, and What I Wore is written by Nora and Delia Ephron based on the book by Ilene Beckerman. It is organized as a series of monologues about women's relationships and wardrobes, and the intersection of the two.
