Spiritus Knox: Breathing Under the Oak Tree
Category: Free event, Health, wellness and Science, nature
Meet under the Pavilion in Lakeshore Park (the structure with a roof and no sides, it sits close to Marble Hall and the newer playground). There will be signs to help guide you.
second Wednesday of the month: October 12, November 9
If you live in Knoxville or happen to be visiting the area, we'd love to breathe together under an old oak tree in Lakeshore Park. Engaging our breath in healthy ways can not only benefit our physical health, it can also help us attune to the Holy Spirit (the breath of God) as well as better connect to our own heart, body, soul and spirit. Breathing together in community can be a delightful gift of finding ease in our lives with others who are trying to do the same. So bring a camp chair, blanket &/or meditation cushion. We so look forward to breathing together under the oak tree.
Please email if you have any questions: caroline@knoxvilleascension.org
This is a free event and all are welcome. Registration is encouraged.

Songs and Stories featuring Scot Sax and Suzie Brown
Category: Lecture, panel and Music
Songs and Stories is branching out as part of its ongoing series of concerts and conversations with another highly anticipated show at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 with special guests Scot Sax and Suzie Brown. As always, this event offers an opportunity not only to share an intimate listening experience with the artists performing their songs in stripped down settings, but also to learn about the craft and creativity that goes into their music and performance.
The Station is located at: 4206 Miser Station Rd, Louisville, TN 37777
Think “The Actor’s Studio,” but geared to musicians.
Scot Sax has a storied musical background that gives him iconic status. A founder of the legendary power pop band Wanderlust, the band was signed to RCA Records and opened for The Who. Sax himself wrote and performed a song in the film “American Pie,” and later formed the acclaimed band called FEEL, and was subsequently signed to Curb Records. Sax later co-wrote a Grammy-winning song for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, toured with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, worked with Don Was, and contributed to a documentary titled “Platinum Rush,” which starred Lisa Loeb and Oliver Wood. In addition, he created videos for Lucinda Williams’ and took part in her Car Wheels On A Gravel Road 20th Anniversary Tour. More recently, Sax and a reunited Wanderlust released the critically acclaimed album All A View, which American Songwriter magazine called “an album for the ages.”
A 1970s-inspired folk-pop songwriter, Suzie Brown has chased her unique muse for a decade, making modern-day roots music that nods to the soul singers, heartland rockers, and blues artists who came before her. Gluing the sound together is the unforced voice and honest, autobiographical songwriting of a Renaissance woman who's not only an acclaimed musician, but also a part-time cardiologist and full-time mother.

The Station is the south's most unique listening room setting for live Americana music, where every seat is a backstage pass! Located in rural East Tennessee, it’s become a destination for Americana music fans traveling far away as Canada and California just to experience a show inside The Station's 120 yr old building! The Station’s old wood interior resonates much like a vintage instrument. Located far from the city lights, the music often blends with cicadas, frogs, and other night sounds from the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. A crowd limit of only 74 seats ensures each show will be an intimate music experience, with all seats equivalent to a backstage pass as fans interact with artists. It’s had several Grammy winning artists perform, as well as the best local artists. It first offers tickets to folks on the email list so many shows sell out before becoming public. You can add yourself to the email list at http://eepurl.com/dsLrNz
Lee Zimmerman is the host for Songs and Stories.
A special podcast of My Backstage Pass will be recorded at the event. A $20 donation per person is requested but not required. Reservations are strongly suggested to assure seating please register your RSVP at this link:

In 1963 a group of Knoxville artists was invited by the late Kermit (Buck) Ewing, Head of the University of TN Art Department, to participate in an exhibition of watercolor paintings at the University’s McClung Museum. During the opening reception Mr. Ewing noted the Knoxville area did not have an organization for artists to share the common interest of painting in aqueous media. He suggested that those artists exhibiting in the McClung show could be the nucleus for such an association. Thus, was the formation of the Knoxville Watercolor Society with Laura Bagwell serving as the first President.
The purpose of this organization is to educate the members as well as the community to the understanding of watercolor as a significant art form. Active membership is juried by the members and consists of Knoxville area artists who are currently active in the serious pursuit of aqueous painting. Annually, the organization provides a scholarship for the University of Tennessee student who is majoring in watercolor painting, donates to the University Ewing Gallery and maintains a membership in the Arts and Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville. Additionally, grants have been made to the Arts Council of Greater Knoxville, the Knoxville Museum of Art, The Tennessee Resource Center, The Tennessee Art Association High School Scholarship Program.

Oct 8-23, Thu-Sun at 7 PM (and Sun Oct 16, 2 PM)
At Ijams Nature Center, 2915 Island Home Avenue Knoxville, TN 37920
Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure is the story of what happens when a man, new in his power and deep in his religion, forces a city to its knees and a woman to the end of her faith. Angelo sentences Claudio to death for impregnating his longtime sweetheart. When Isabella, Claudio’s sister and a soon-to-be Nun, begs for Angelo to change his mind, he offers her a choice: Claudio can die, or she can give up her chastity to Angelo in exchange for Claudio’s life.
“[W]ith an outstretched throat, I’ll tell the world aloud what man thou art.” “Who will believe thee, Isabel?”
Guests should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets so they will have room to spread out and observe proper social distancing while enjoying the outdoor performances.
