Songs and Stories from Bluetick Tavern: Michael de Lisle

  • October 30, 2022

Category: Free event, Lecture, panel and Music

Songs and Stories is branching out as part of its ongoing series of concerts and conversations with another highly anticipated show at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 30th at Bluetick Tavern, 128 W Broadway Avenue, Maryville with special guest Knoxville favorite son, Michael de Lisle. As always, this event offers an opportunity not only to share an intimate listening experience with the artists performing their songs in stripped down settings, but also to learn about the craft and creativity that goes into their music and performance. Think “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” but geared to musicians.

Michael de Lisle plays an Americana blend of roots music, in the form of blues, old folk, classic Texas singer/songwriters, and acoustic adaptations of 60s and early 70s tunes. He’s performed most of his life — some 55 years in total — on acoustic and electric guitar, as well as a lot of electric bass. He plays out rather frequently at open mics, full gigs, and occasional house concerts. His latest studio venture, released earlier this year, is the EP Tennessee Sunshine. It not only received a surprising amount of positive response from listeners and reviewers, but also afforded him the rewarding opportunity to visit dozens of old friends to personally deliver copies of the record, and to catch up with folks in distant environs. With a boatload of original tunes developed over decades, he intends to do a followup recording session this fall or early winter. Check out his music here: https://youtu.be/ehyxJEJFnKA?list=PLCu2udiXLhaGQ2Cx0HH3TWRR9TvSSczjH

Lee Zimmerman is the host for Songs and Stories.

Knoxville Children's Theatre: Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon

Category: Kids, family, Literature, spoken word, writing and Theatre

The play will be performed Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM.

Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon KIDS is an adaptation of the fourth of Mary Pope Osborne’s award-winning fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House book series. Jack and Annie’s tree house takes them to an exotic island with pirates, where the two discover the power of friendship and the simple pleasures in everyday life.

The two siblings return to visit the magic tree house on a dreary, rainy day. They find a book where the sun is shining and the waves are crashing, so they wish to travel to this tropical place. They realize that they are in the eighteenth-century Caribbean, the time of pirates! The siblings meet Captain Bones, a mean old pirate who captures the two and forces them to help him find buried treasure. It’s up to Jack and Annie to find their way back to the tree house and make their way home.
