Songs and Stories: Mare Wakefield & Nomad
Category: Free event, Lecture, panel and Music
Songs and Stories is branching out as part of its ongoing series of concerts and conversations with another highly anticipated show at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16 at The Station, 4206 Miser Station Rd, Louisville, TN starring the acclaimed Nashville duo Mare Wakefield & Nomad. As always, this event offers an opportunity not only to share an intimate listening experience with the artists performing their songs in stripped down settings, but also to learn about the craft and creativity that goes into their music and performance.
Think “Inside The Actor’s Studio,” but geared to musicians. You’ll be astounded” says Maverick Magazine about this Nashville-based Americana duo. Featuring award-winning Southeast Texas songwriter Mare Wakefield on guitar and Turkish-born, classically-trained Nomad on piano and accordion, “this husband-and-wife duo delights audiences with their mix of Americana, old-time country and contemporary folk” (WHYY). Former Kerrville Folk Festival NewFolk Finalists and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artists, the duo had an original song featured in a Lifetime TV Movie and has been called “Cozy brilliance” by the Louisville Observer and "Lovely" by the New York Times. They are currently touring in support of their latest record, No Remedy (2021) which American Songwriter magazine named in a list of "Best Albums of 2021 So Far" and first album single was named by Alternate Root as a Top 10 Song for the week of March 31st.
Lee Zimmerman is the host for Songs and Stories. For more information, to become a sponsor or to take part as an artist, please contact Lee Zimmerman by calling 786-863-3160 or via email at lezim@bellsouth.net.

The Sunsphere, World’s Fair Site, and Neyland Stadium are Knoxville landmarks of pride and passion, history, and culture. But anyone who has resided in this mid-sized Southern city knows that it derives its unique glow not so much from its locale but from its people— the ones who built it and stayed true to it over the years. In her book East Tennessee Newsmakers, Georgiana Vines pays tribute to some of these remarkable individuals and their contributions to Knoxville and the history, civic and cultural life, and politics of East Tennessee. This collection of 47 stories, originally appearing in the Knoxville News Sentinel, was published by the University of Tennessee Press in November 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that in-person events have resumed, Vines is back to share this book with the public.

Artist's Statement: I can feel an entire shift in my thinking and my emotions when viewing a strikingly bold and colorful piece of art. The goal of my work is to inspire energy and excitement from within. These images are meant to make you feel strong and powerful — to burst into your morning with a zing, to prod you into action when you reach your midday lull, and/or to invigorate your senses after a long day. Ideally, my art evokes a reaction and reminds you that life is for feeling and stretching, and living.
