Niswonger Performing Arts Center: Lightwire Theater’s The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare

  • November 5, 2022

Category: Kids, family, Literature, spoken word, writing, Music and Theatre

NOV 5 | 11:00 AM

We begin with Aesop’s classic fable of The Tortoise and the Hare but continue the story which finds them 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern day distractions. Smartphones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections to life experiences. The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare in a whole new kind of race where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line?

Lightwire Theater has been featured as semi-finalists on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and winners of Tru TV’s Fake Off. Combining theater and technology to bring stories to life in complete darkness, the group is internationally recognized for their signature brand of electroluminescent artistry. With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings this tale into a new brilliant light.

"Abstracts on Display" will host a rotating series of abstract artists from around the country. Jen Sterling is the inaugural artist!

Artist's Statement: I can feel an entire shift in my thinking and my emotions when viewing a strikingly bold and colorful piece of art. The goal of my work is to inspire energy and excitement from within. These images are meant to make you feel strong and powerful — to burst into your morning with a zing, to prod you into action when you reach your midday lull, and/or to invigorate your senses after a long day. Ideally, my art evokes a reaction and reminds you that life is for feeling and stretching, and living.

JEN STERLING is an abstract painter based in Annapolis, MD. Her work inspires energy and excitement in homes and workspaces. She works large and small and adores commissions. For more info visit www.jensterling.com and follow @jensterlingart on Instagram.
