Tennessee Theatre: Deluxe Tours
Category: Festivals, special events and History, heritage
Have you ever wondered how many light bulbs are in each chandelier in the Grand Lobby? How has the seating capacity changed over the years? What event attracted the biggest crowds? Which Broadway show brought 12 semi-trucks full of scenery, sets, and costumes? Learn these details and more about the history, performances, and complete renovation of the Official State Theatre of Tennessee. You’ll go to areas not usually open to the public and walk away with a better understanding and appreciation for this architectural and cultural gem.
Deluxe Tours last approximately 120 minutes and are offered on certain Saturdays throughout the summer. On this tour, you'll participate in an in-depth discovery of the Theatre’s rich history and comprehensive renovation, and its performances, past and present. In addition to the Grand Lobby, Auditorium, Stage, and Dressing Rooms, attendees will visit the projection booth and learn more about the theatrical equipment that brings the shows to life. Some areas are accessible only by stairs. Photography is permitted, but only with personal cameras/phones. Please arrive 15 minutes early so the tour can begin on time. While all are welcome, these tours are geared for attendees aged 12 & up.
Tours for June and July will be offered on June 22, July 6 and July 20 at 11am. Additional summer dates will be announced in July. Sign up: https://www.tennesseetheatre.com/visit/tours

Knoxville Shakespeare: Shakesology: A Shakespeare Study Day
Knoxville Shakespeare presents SHAKESOLOGY: A VIRTUAL SHAKESPEARE STUDY DAY, Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
Would you like to learn more about Shakespeare’s plays? When they were written? Why they were written? Quirky facts about their stage history and what cool films have been made from the plays? If so Shakesology is for you!
Shakesology is a 2 ½ hour special virtual event to learn the history and context of Shakespeare’s work before viewing the plays. Inspired by a program created at Shakespeare’s Globe and led by Knoxville Shakespeare dramaturge, Dr. Jennifer Horn, each study session will showcase Shakespeare’s story and influences, as well as some of the choices that other productions have made and the background behind the selection for this year’s Knoxville Shakespeare’s production. Members of the Stage Company artistic team will also discuss the current productions and their creative process. We will be highlighting A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
