Enjoy a beverage and a few arias at Marble City Opera’s Pint-Sized Opera. Several singers and an accompanist take over a pub for two hours of music and merriment. Admission is free but donations to Marble City Opera are encouraged. On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Pint-Sized Opera will be held at Monday Night Brewing Proofing Co. inside Kerns Food Hall, 2201 Kerns Rising Way, just south of the Henley Street Bridge. The Tennessee Artist’s Association will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 18th at 7:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Northshore Dr., Knoxville. This meeting is free and open to anyone interested in the arts in East Tennessee. Refreshments will be served.

The guest speaker for March is artist Esther Sitver. Sitver is a Knoxville based illustrator who merges vintage aesthetics with contemporary progressive ideas and humor. Since selling her artwork as a child, Sitver has marketed stickers, prints, and postcard designs. She draws with an old-fashioned dip pen and colors digitally in Photoshop. Her love for traditional pen and ink drawing pulls together her specialties: portraiture/figure drawing, editorial illustration, pattern design, and plein air painting. Sitver graduated Ringling College of Art + Design’s Illustration BFA Class of 2020. When she’s not creating, Sitver can be found rollerskating and hiking around East Tennessee. Tennessee Artists Association - A place to learn and grow as an artist. Monthly programs of TAA include practical art demonstrations, discussions, and opportunities for individual artists to get involved in learning, community and shows. Join Ijams and the Smoky Mountain Storytellers Association for World Storytelling Day on March 18. This is a day that celebrates the art of storytelling all over the world- from tall tales and ancient lore, to stories from foreign lands or those that have been passed down through the the family through generations. All forms of storytelling are appreciated on this day.

Doors open at 6 pm, stories begin at 7. This is a family friendly event- good for all ages. Tickets for this event are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5-12.

A magical fable with music. This exciting new play tells the story of the Fail family and their seemingly difficult challenge to just stay alive around blunt objects, disappearances and the odd case of consumption. Sometimes you just never see death coming. In this upbeat, tuneful, magical fable you can either worry about the ever-impending death or you can live, love, and sing some songs along the way.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present five new exhibitions at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville opening on Friday, March 7, from 5:00-9:00 PM. A free gathering with the exhibiting artists will also feature live music by Sarrenna, Travis Bigwood and Nicholas Horner.

Kerry Remp is a retired NASA Engineer and professional pianist who enjoys the exploration of various mediums to “build” art. A musician from the age of three, Remp discovered visual art, via paper (modular origami) at age 40. Once he was hooked on creating, other paper art forms such as quilling, sculpture and portraiture began to take shape. At age 60, he began exploring the creation process using thread and eventually yarn. Currently involved in weaving on a rigid heddle loom, the love of creating continues to inspire him. He has been an active participant in Arts & Culture Alliance activities since retiring to Tennessee in 2017. In addition to individual commissions and sales, he has participated in displays/shows at the Emporium, Broadway Gallery and City/County Offices. Since becoming a grandfather to Malakai (a boy born with Downs Syndrome), all proceeds from his artwork are donated to GiGi's Playhouse, a non-profit organization that provides free programming and support to families affected by Downs Syndrome through 60+ locations across the United States.

The exhibitions will be on display March 7-30, 2025 at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, Knoxville, TN 37902.

Pangrok Sulap, a Malaysian community-collective from Borneo will be in Knoxville for two-weeks in March 2025 leading up to the Big Ears Music Festival. Pangrok Sulap includes “artists, musicians and social activists with a mission to empower rural communities and the marginalized through art.” “Pangrok” is the local pronunciation of “punk rock”, and “Sulap” is a hut or a resting place usually used by farmers in Sabah, Borneo. Artists Adi Helmi Bin Jaini and Zayrul Rizo Bin Osman Leong will collaborate with students and faculty from the University of Tennessee in the creation of a large scale, community-printed woodcut. Accompanied by percussion, Pangrok Sulap prints are created through community participation.

As part of the Big Ears Festival the group has plans to conduct printing sessions in the South Garden of the Knoxville Museum of Art, 1050 World’s Fair Park Drive on Thursday through Saturday March 27, 28, and 29th from 10:00am – 6:00pm during intermissions for performances in the Ann and Steve Bailey Great Hall.

During the month of March, prints from Pangrok Sulap will also be presented at RED Gallery, 130 West Jackson Ave. with an opening reception on Friday March 7.
