Category: Festivals, special events, Free event, Health, wellness and Meetup
On behalf of Bike Walk Knoxville, you are invited to join us for World Day of Remembrance on Sunday, November 17. On World Day of Remembrance, communities across the country and around the world are organizing events to demand change that will save lives and prevent injuries. In Knoxville, the group will gather at noon in Market Square to commemorate the lives of friends, neighbors, and family members lost to road crashes. Advocates will call for safe streets and infrastructure improvements for vulnerable road users. The lights on the Henley Street Bridge will be yellow in honor of this event. We hope you will join us to remember lives lost to road crashes and call for action.

416 West Jackson Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37902
Presented By: The 808 Knox
Price: $25 - $40
Doors: 7:00 pm | Show: 8:00 pm
The information age has a sound. Revolutionary technology meets an evolutionary message in Papadosio. Melding progressive rock with psychedelia, folk with electronica, and dance music with jam, the quintet has amassed a dedicated following of thousands of likeminded individuals sowing the seeds of unity and spreading the sounds of exaltation. Singer-songwriter Anthony Thogmartin’s visionary lyrics, eclectic production, and signature guitar work are anchored by the rock solid battery of drummer Mike Healy and bassist Rob McConnell. The quintet is rounded out by brothers Billy and Sam Brouse, whose virtuosic two-headed keyboard, synth, and programming attack give the band its unmistakable complexity and intensity.

Sundress Academy: Poetry Xfit

Event by Sundress Academy for the Arts
The Sundress Academy for the Arts is excited to present Poetry Xfit hosted by Emory Dinsmore. This generative workshop event will take place on Sunday, November 17th from 2 to 4 pm EST via Zoom. Join us at the link tiny.utk.edu/sundress with the password “safta”.
Poetry Xfit isn't about throwing tires or heavy ropes, but the idea of confusing our muscles is the same. You will receive ideas, guidelines, and more as part of this generative workshop series in order to complete three poems in two hours. A new set of prompts will be provided after the writers have written collaboratively for thirty minutes. The goal is to create material that can be later modified and transformed into artwork rather than producing flawless final versions. The event is open to prose authors as well!
Emory Dinsmore is a queer author from East Tennessee. They are currently a senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as they are working on getting their bachelor’s in creative writing. They have worked as an intern for both Sundress Publications and SAFTA. They have been published in The Phoenix, a literary magazine at the University of Tennessee. During their free time, you’ll find them hanging out with their cats, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or playing video games.

More About Jaz & Childlike Creative: childlike creative was created by jasmine “jaz” parks, transdisciplinary and multi-medium collage and clay artist. she is very influenced and inspired by children and how they navigate and negotiate life, experimenting and responding to everything. they are candid, honest, bold, and they believe they can do anything and be anything or anyone. they decide to do something, and then they do. she admires their resilience, reliance on intuition, and playful experimentation and simple discovery of what it is like to be a human in the world through questioning and doing. her undergraduate degree in child and family studies, along with her first Masters degree in philosophy and 2.5 years in graduate school for architecture has resulted in an interesting personal and professional approach to making. childlike creative is the manifestation of both her personal ethos for making and the name of the business and brand she has created.

UT Arboretum Society: Field Safety Seminar with Field Inclusive
Category: Free event, Lecture, panel, Science, nature and Virtual
Join us on Zoom to hear from Field Inclusive, a nonprofit dedicated to making outdoor fieldwork and outdoor experiences safer for all, particularly marginalized and historically excluded individuals, on Tuesday, November 19, 7pm Eastern time. This program is co-sponsored by the UT Arboretum Society and Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning.
Lauren D. Pharr, an avian ecologist and co-founder of Field Inclusive, will explain how Field Inclusive works to establish safety precautions for those who professionally work and conduct research outdoors. We will learn more about the topic of "social field safety" and why certain precautions and safety measures need to be taken in the field for all to enjoy the outdoors. Do you feel safe when you go for a walk, bird watching or hiking? Not all members of our community do. Field researchers often experience bias in the field and do not always feel safe. This program will take us into their shoes and help start conversations. “This will begin the conversation in order to help you co-create tangible, actionable change and social field safety solutions in our own communities and organizations,” explains Pharr.
A Ph.D. candidate at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Pharr is pursuing her degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology. Her current research focuses on studying the effects of climate change on nestling success in the federally endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker.
In addition to her research, Lauren is an advocate for Black and historically excluded minorities in STEM. Both her research and advocacy work led her to be awarded the North Carolina Wildlife Federation’s 2023 Governor's Conservation Achievement Award for Young Conservationist of the Year, the highest honor in the state of North Carolina in the wildlife space. She currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The program is free, but registration is required to receive your Zoom link and the recording. The program will be recorded and sent to all who register. Register at www.utarboretumsociety.org under Programs. Closed captions are available. Please contact Michelle at mcampani@utk.edu for any questions or registration issues.
