ART MARKET GALLERY: ANNUAL MEMBER’S AUCTION

This silent auction of over 50 pieces of original art and fine craft will give gallery visitors an opportunity a chance to purchase items at a fraction of their value.

The auction will kickoff during downtown’s April First Friday festivities April 1. The gallery will host a reception with refreshments and live music from 5:30-9 pm. In addition to the auction, this reception will feature the works of two of Art Market Gallery’s member-artists: paintings by Victoria Simmons and pottery by Linda Sullivan. The reception is open to the public.

C.S. Lewis, Oxford don and author of The Chronicles of Narnia and The Screwtape Letters, is smug in his convictions about God and His plan for the world, until Joy and her young son enter his life. Against the advice of his brother and fellow Oxford scholars, the bewildered theoretician of love and suffering in the abstract finally confronts its direct presence. The role of C.S. Lewis will be played by Clarence Brown Theatre actor and U.T. Theatre Professor, Terry Weber.

In Racine's play, Phaedra is the queen of Athens who desires her stepson, Hippolytus. When her husband--who has long been absent from the court--is declared dead, she reveals her desire to him. The tragedy unfolds when the king suddenly returns. To cover up the sexual and political transgression and to preempt public accusations about an incestuous affair, Phaedra accuses her stepson of making sexual advances to her. Hippolytus is banned from court and dies a gruesome death while Phaedra, ruing her deed, commits suicide. Niswonger Performing Arts Center: Tennessee Iris Invitational

The Tennessee Iris Invitational sponsored by James-Ben: Studio and Gallery Art Center will be on display at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, overlapping the Greene County Iris Festival, May 20-22. A Meet the Artists reception will be held May 1 from 1-3 p.m., followed at 3 p.m. by a Greeneville High School band concert. Featured works include reverse painting on plexiglas, manipulated digital images, oil on canvas, watercolors and sculpture by dozens of artists from across the state. Art Market Gallery:Recent works by Victoria Simmons of Knoxville and Linda Sullivan

Art Market Gallery of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Victoria Simmons of Knoxville and Linda Sullivan of Oak Ridge.

Victoria Simmons is an award-winning painter and illustrator of animals, primarily dogs and horses. Her April exhibit will be paintings of Foxhounds, a series which was born out of years spent at the opening meets of the Tennessee Valley Hunt Club and on hound walks with the huntsman.

Linda Sullivan, who holds an MFA in ceramics, creates functional and sculptural vessels out of stoneware and porcelain clays. Inspired by various landscapes and drawing on her strong background in painting, she employs a unique glazing process by pouring and overlapping her glazes in a purposeful, painterly way to depict landscape imagery.

A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for April 1 from 5:30-9 pm. with complimentary refreshments and live music.

The Annual Student Art Show, an exhibit showcasing the best works by art students at Pellissippi State Community College, begins a 12-day run on Monday, March 28.

Featuring pieces created by students from all levels in their studies, the exhibit is free and open to the public. This year’s display showcases paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures and design pieces.
