Knoxville Opera: Rossini Festival International Street Fair

Knoxville Guitar Society: Belle Triste

Belle Triste consists of Candice Mowbray on classical guitar and Anita Thomas on clarinet. Through carefully-chosen repertoire, new arrangements and original compositions, Belle Triste has prepared a thoughtful, expressive and entertaining program of music that brings influences of many genres into a classical setting and appeals to a broad range of audiences.

Greg has been a fixture on the Knoxville song writing and old time music scene for many years. Both have recently published CDs — Jay’s Of Mountains & Heartbreak and Greg’s Working on Engines.

54FilmFest Knoxville Screening

The 54 hour film festival is a timed competition for film makers to make a 4-7 minute short film within 54 hours. The contest is simple: Get a team of filmmakers together (friends and family are great!), show up at the Inception Meeting (bring the whole gang if you'd like!), draw your genre, get your assigned Action, Line of Dialogue, and Prop, then go out and produce a 4-7 minute short film within 54 total hours. Once completed, turn in your short film at the drop-off before time runs out. Then, a couple weeks later, after judges have had a look at the films, invite your friends and family out to watch your movie on the big screen - along with all the other competing teams. Make sure you stick around for the award ceremony in case you get to go home that night as an award winning filmmaker!

Knoxville Writers Guild: Walkabout Writing Workshop

Learn to write about character as you immerse in a lively downtown setting! Widely published writer and editor Jeannette Brown will lead a Knoxville Writers' Guild-sponsored walking-workshop on "Finding Characters: A Walkabout" The workshop will take place from 10:00 to 12:00 on Saturday, April 22.
The public is invited to the workshop, which will meet at Awaken Coffee, 125 W. Jackson Avenue in Knoxville's Old City. The cost to attend is $50, with a 40% discount offered to Knoxville Writers' Guild Members and a 50% discount to students. Scholarships are available for all Knoxville Writers' Guild programs. In this workshop, participants will discuss character—interior and exterior—before taking a short walk downtown. In the second half of the workshop, each will write a description of a “character” encountered and give him/her a bit of personality. Participants should bring a digital camera or smartphone and the writing materials of their choice.
Jeannette Brown's work has been published in Bellevue Literary Review, Southwestern American Literature, New Millennium Writings, Texas Observer, ArtSpace, Mother Earth, and other publications. She is the co-editor of Literary Lunch, a food anthology.

Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum: Grow Your Garden: Summer Fruits and Veggies

Join us as for the continuation of the Grow Your Garden series! Participants will learn about growing a fruits and vegetables this summer and discuss container gardening, what to plant, when to plant it, and how to grow a summer edible garden. The Grow Your Garden series is offered through the Center for Urban Agriculture as a partnership between the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum, the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA, and SEEED Knox in an effort to help people grow food for themselves and others.

Sequoyah Birthplace Museum: Cherokee Finger Weaving Workshop

The Finger Weaving workshop will be taught by Sharon Ensminger. Sharon Ensminger began finger weaving as a way to connect with her “15% Native American DNA". Though small, it has become a strong passion in her life. Sharon has been finger weaving for over 18 years and demonstrates and teaches finger weaving, promotes its history and relevance for today. She has developed a line of instrument, and camera straps backed in supple leathers; weaves belts, sashes, scarves, regalia pieces, and memorial pieces. She had woven pieces for Moundville Archaeological Museum as well as pieces for protocol in many different places around the world. Sharon is not federally recognized or affiliated with a Native American Tribe. She finger weaves to honor her unknown Native heritage.
Call the museum at 423-884-6246 or stop by to register. Cost of class is $25.00. Bring a small box and 2 skeins of heavy weight yarn of different colors (one light, one dark). Bring a bag lunch.
