Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Tchaikovsky Serenade For Strings

Part of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s 2016-2017 Chamber Classics Series, which marks the KSO’s 81st season.
The KSO Chamber Classics Series concludes with light-hearted music including Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, Mozart’s Oboe Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, under the baton of Maestro James Fellenbaum, with KSO Principal Oboist Claire Chenette soloing.

In both art and life, violinist Rachel Barton Pine has an extraordinary ability to connect with people. The Washington Post calls Pine “an exciting, boundary-defying performer” and says, “[she] displays a power and confidence that puts her in the top echelon.” Enjoy music by J.S. Bach, Paganini, Kreisler, and a new work written for Ms. Pine!

UT School of Music: Ready for the World Music Series: China

Come explore innovative and expressive songs and instrumental works inspired by Chinese culture with guest artists Guangyu Xie, cello and Sharon Cheng, soprano, and UT faculty member Chih-Long Hu, piano. Many of the musical selections that will be presented are by Chinese composers of the last century and combine traditional musical idioms with modern sonorities. This program aims to depict the beauty and magic of one of the oldest societies in the world.

Knoxville Handel Society: Handel's Messiah, Parts 2 & 3

Knoxville Handel Society is a newly-formed community choral group, established to perform choral masterworks. The 100-voice, multigenerational choir is dedicated to preservation of Choral Arts. The inaugural event is Handel’s beloved “Messiah,” Parts 2 and 3, to be performed with chorus and orchestra at the iconic Tennessee Theatre. The choir and orchestra will be under the direction of our Guest Conductor, Don Neuen. A world-renown conductor, Neuen will direct final rehearsals and the performance on April 2, 2017 at 7:30PM. Dr. Neuen was formerly Professor of Conducting and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Tennessee from 1973-1981.

Dogwood Arts: Art In Public Places

Art in Public Places Knoxville (AIPPK), now in its 10th year, is a featured presentation of Dogwood Arts. In partnership with the City of Knoxville, Art in Public Places Knoxville is a juried exhibition of large-scale sculptures created by exceptional local, regional and national artists. The 2017-2018 Exhibition will feature up to twenty sculptures in downtown Knoxville, the McGhee Tyson Airport, and Oak Ridge as juried by Knoxville-based sculpture artist John Douglas Powers.

Friends of the Knox County Public Library Annual Used Book Sale

Friends of the Knox County Public Library will hold its Annual Used Book Sale on Saturday-Tuesday, April 1-4, 2017, at the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park, Knoxville. April 1 is open to Friends members only (10a.m.-6 p.m.) April 2-4 is free and open to the public (Sunday and Monday 10a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.).
Thousands of carefully selected, quality used books will be for sale at amazingly low prices. Most books for adults will be $2 (hardcover) and $1 (paperback) or less. Children's books will run $1 (hardcover) and $.50 (paperback). The last day of the sale, Tuesday, April 4, is a $5 bag sale.
All proceeds from the used book sale go to support the Knox County Public Library system.

Explore more than 60 miles of trails, open gardens, and camera sites as you enjoy a walk, bike or drive, March 31 through April 30.
Dogwood Arts celebrates its North Knoxville trails in 2017. The Featured Trail, Historic Fountain City, dates back to 1957, covers 16 miles and boasts over 3200 blooming dogwoods and abundant flowering azaleas as it winds through the neighborhood. At the center of this welcoming community is a 12 acre park with walking trails, the Fountain City Art Center and the iconic Fountain City Lake where residents gather to visit and enjoy nature.
As you explore North Knoxville, visit the Historic North Hills Trail, with its blooming boulevard along with a charming mix of 1930s Neo-classical, English Cottage, Bungalow, Craftsman and Italian Renaissance homes. Further north and in the foothills of the Clinch mountains, the Halls-Timberline neighborhood was designed as a beautiful building site abundant with native Tennessee flowering dogwood trees. As part of our Bazillion Blooms Program, over 100 dogwood trees have been added in recent years.

Knoxville Children's Theatre: The Miracle Worker

Knoxville Children’s Theatre, in partnership with The Ritchie Company, will present the Tony-winning classic play, “The Miracle Worker,” an inspirational drama for ages 7 and older. The play will be performed Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM; Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM; Sundays at 3 PM.
Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, young Helen Keller is violent, spoiled, almost subhuman, and treated by her family as such. Only Annie Sullivan, a young Irish teacher, realizes there is a mind and spirit inside Helen, waiting to be rescued from the dark and tortured silence. Featuring landmark scenes of emotional intensity, the play crescendos with the utterance of a single, glorious word: “Water.” Helen’s true-life transformation has become an unforgettable odyssey for audiences all around the world. The play is performed by 11 talented young actors, from ages 10 to 16.

School of Hard Knox: Swing Dance with Rhythm Serenaders

The annual swing music and dance festival, the School of Hard Knox, is returning this month to Knoxville, TN! Evening dances are all open to the public and welcome to both seasoned dancers and first time beginners. Headlining both Friday and Saturday evening is Michael Gamble and his Rhythm Serenaders, one of the best swing bands in the world based just over the mountains in Asheville, NC.
For the past 4 years, the School of Hard Knox has provided a place to learn, dance, and have fun with dancers across the region. In the heart of the Tennessee Valley, we bring the Southeast and the Midwest together for a weekend of celebrating and learning about vintage jazz.
Passes for the entire event can be purchased online, at the Friday evening dance of the event, or at the door before classes on Saturday morning.
