Old-Time Stringband

One of the most influential fiddlers of the old-time music revival, Bruce Molsky is also a remarkable guitarist, banjoist and singer. His discography includes seven solo albums, from his debut of fiddlers’ classics, Warring Cats, to his most recent, If It Ain’t Here When I Get Back. Poor Man’s Troubles won a 2001 “Indie” award for Best Traditional Folk Recording. In the Mountain Drifters Bruce is joined by Allison DeGroot on banjo and Stash Wyslouch on guitar.

Farragut Book Fest for Children

Sponsored by the Farragut Arts Council and the Knox County Library Farragut Branch, the 10th annual "Farragut Book Fest for Children" will be held at Founders Park at Campbell Station (formerly Campbell Station Park). This free event will feature storytellers, book signings by local authors, art activities, cookie decorating, face painting, music, refreshments and more. The first 400 children will receive a free coloring book, pencil and crayons. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character.

The Hardin Valley Academy Theatre Group will perform at 10:30 a.m. under the main entertainment tent. Bright Star Touring Theatre (brightstartheatre.com) will deliver two performances: "Gus goes Green" at 11 a.m. and "Professor Parsnip's Lab of Healthy Choices" at 1 p.m. Magician Michael Messing will perform at 12 p.m. Featured authors will include David Boyce, Bonnie Cadotte, David and Mary Faith Enyart, Thelma Hartigan, Charles Haun, Jennifer Hultz, Elizabeth Kidder and Joe Moore. Event media sponsor is the Farragut Shopper News. In conjunction with this event, the Friends of the Knox County Library will host a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8.

Limited parking will be available at Founders Park at Campbell Station; additional parking will be available at Farragut Assembly of God, located across the street from the park on Campbell Station Road. The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society’s 50th Annual Spring Plant Sale

The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society’s 50th Annual Spring Plant Sale will gather the best of four local nurseries in one location.

The public sale will be held on Saturday, April 8th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UT Arboretum at 901 S. Illinois Ave. (Hwy. 62) in Oak Ridge. The “Members Only” sale will be on Friday evening, April 7th from 5-7 p.m. Memberships may be purchased at that time for this “early bird” shopping opportunity. Checks and credit cards will be accepted.

Beaver Creek and Riverdale Nurseries from Knoxville, Sunlight Gardens from Andersonville and East Fork Nursery from Sevierville will be offering a large and varied selection of shrubs, trees, wildflowers, perennials, annuals and edibles. Two plant propagators from the Chattanooga area will have Japanese Maples and a few rare plants at this sale. Additionally, an assortment of donated plants from Society members will be offered.

Brad Greenwood Designs will be returning with botanically themed copper garden ornaments and steel features for the home and yard. Dano’s Hot Dogs from Lenoir City will be offering an expanded sandwich menu along with his famous lemonade.

Retired U.T. horticulture professor Dr. Will Witte, the “Answer Man”, will be on hand to answer your plant questions.

The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society has existed for 52 years as a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the objectives and programs of the University of Tennessee’s 250-acre Arboretum in Oak Ridge. Proceeds from this sale and other Society fund-raising events go toward the operating expenses and endowment fund for the UT Arboretum. Marble Springs State Historic Site: Tree Planting Celebration

Join us at Marble Springs and learn how to properly plant and label saplings to meet arboretum qualifications as set by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council. Afterwards, participants can help plant the 60th tree in recognition of Marble Springs reaching a level 2 Arboretum. Lunch will be provided at noon for those helping plant our celebratory tree. Additional activities include a lecture on the importance of urban forestry, a guided tour, and Earth Day themed crafts for kids.

Knox Heritage: Preservation Network - Painting Your Historic House

Knox Heritage presents the next installment of the monthly series Preservation Network. It is free and open to the public. The April Preservation Network features Hollie Cook, Director of Education. Cook will discuss the best techniques for a successful experience painting your historic house.

Preservation Network is a series of free workshops held once every month on the second Saturday. The monthly workshops feature guest speakers who are specialists in windows, flooring, roofing, stained glass, tile, plumbing, electrical, and more. Other guest speakers have included experts in real estate sales and appraisals, and city codes and zoning officials who discuss historic overlays and building requirements.

Bijou Theatre: Pritzker Prize-winner Kazuyo Sejima

Pritzker Prize-winner Kazuyo Sejima, co-founder of the international architecture firm, SANAA, will present “Environment and Architecture” on April 8 at 4pm. The lecture, a reflection of how Kazuyo’s interests translate into architecture, is free and open to the public. It is hosted by the UT College of Architecture and Design and sponsored by General Shale.

Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: Spring Bounty Show

On Friday, April 7, from 5 - 7 p.m., The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will host a special Opening Reception for the Spring Bounty Art Show. Progressive Savings Bank is sponsoring this show and providing the awards. This show is special because the viewers will cast their votes for their favorite artworks beginning on April 7 and ending on April 28. Winners will then be announced to the public.

The Opening Reception will feature a large assortment of hors d’oeuvres and wine, soda, and water to attendees. This event is free and open to the public. The PCAC is a great place to shop for art including paintings, photographs, pottery, jewelry, wood carvings, and greeting cards.
