Fountain City Art Center: Knoxville Watercolor Society

Opening reception on Fri Apr 28, 6:30-8:00 PM. Free and open to the public.
Featuring the opening of the Annual All-Media Show by the Knoxville Watercolor Society. The exhibit does contain 90% watercolors, but other media represented are: oils, pastels, mixed media, and acrylics. KWS allows members to show other media once a year to demonstrate that some of the members are just as competent and comfortable working in other media besides watercolor.

Oak Ridge Playhouse: Marvelous Wonderettes
We first meet the girl group “The Marvelous Wonderettes” as they take the stage at their 1958 senior prom. Through classic hits of the 50’s we learn about their lives and loves, discovering that their dreams are as big as their crinolines! A decade later, the “Wonderettes” reunite at their 10-year reunion, eventually discovering that no matter what life has thrown their way or what the future may bring, they can conquer it together. A must-take musical trip down memory lane!

A featured event of Dogwood Arts, the annual Dogwood Arts Festival will be held in the heart of downtown Knoxville. The Dogwood Arts Festival is a popular outdoor event featuring fine art and fine craft, folk art, live music and dance performances, artist demonstrations, and hands-on activities for kids and adults in the heart of downtown Knoxville. The Festival is located on Market Square, along Market Street and Clinch Avenue, and in Krutch Park against a canvas of blossoming trees and outdoor sculpture.

Alive After Five is a unique live music series that takes place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Ann and Steve Bailey Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, and free parking. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries. Admission is $15 for general and $10 for museum members and college students with ID. Ages 17 and under are admitted free.

By supporting Community Shares, which is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit fundraising agency, you will also be supporting more than 30 progressive social change non-profit organizations that are located throughout Tennessee.
The Circle of Change Awards Ceremony is an event that awards folks in the local community for their efforts to make Tennessee a better place for all of our citizens. The event will include dinner, a silent auction, a live auction, an awards ceremony and a live band for dancing. We expect about 300 people to attend.

Jubilee Community Arts: Scott Ainslie

As a musician with expertise in Southern Appalachian fiddle and banjo traditions as well as Piedmont and Delta blues, Ainslie has specialized in performing and presenting programs on the European and African roots of American music and culture. He is especially known for his study of Robert Johnson’s repertoire and technique and is the author of Robert Johnson, at the Crossroads. His latest CD is The Last Shot Got Him released in 2014.
