Sevierville Commons: Chalk on Bruce

On May 18 from 1 pm until 8 pm and May 19 from 9 am until 3 pm artists will be drawing in chalk on Bruce street in downtown Sevierville during the Bloomin' BBQ and Bluegrass festival. This event is free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.In the event of rain, we will simply stop and resume activity when it dries out.
Official parking for Bloomin' BBQ and Bluegrass is at First Baptist Church and Citizens National Bank.
We are hoping for a successful event as we continue our mission of Bringing the Arts to Downtown!

Modern Studio: The 5th Woman – Live

The 5th Woman is returning to the Modern Studio,109 Anderson Ave, Friday and Saturday May 18 and 19 at 8pm. The 5thWoman production combines the power of music and the force that is spoken-word poetry to provide Knoxville with an opportunity to empower women and learn the struggles and oppression that women from all walks of life face.
It is the brainchild of Knoxville's own Rhea "RheaSunshine" Carmon. Carmon is an educator, mother, wife, and poet dedicated to changing the world and opening the eyes of those in her community to the path of womanness. Rhea is a slam champion, organizer of the 5th Woman workshop series, and director and producer of the show.
This year the 5th Woman Fellowship Cohort is the most diverse ever. Whitnie Williams, Ryan Andrews, Alyssa Molina, Joseph "Black Atticus" Woods, and Joey Jennings have participated in extensive work and research to tackle the love affair with Poetry. RheaSunshine will make a special appearance during the show as a celebration of 5 years of sharing the lives and stories of women. Tickets are available at http://thefifthwoman.com . Boys’ Night Out
Alive After Five is a unique live music series that takes place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Ann and Steve Bailey Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, and free parking. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries. Admission is $15 for general and $10 for museum members and college students with ID. Ages 17 and under are admitted free.

Clarence Brown Theatre: 2018 CBT Gala

University of Tennessee alumnus, Rusty Mowery, will be awarded the CBT Artistic Achievement Award at the Clarence Brown Theatre’s annual Gala to be held at The Mill & Mine, 227 W. Depot Avenue in Knoxville, TN. Mowery is the associate choreographer of the TONY Award-winning musical “Kinky Boots.” He has set “Kinky Boots” all over the world with productions in London (Olivier Award winner for Best Musical and Best Choreography), Toronto (DORA Award winner for Best Musical), South Korea, US 1st National Tour, US Bus and Truck Tour, Australia (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane - Helpmann Award winner for Best Choreography), Tokyo, and Germany. His other Broadway credits include: “CATS,” “Ragtime,” “Seussical,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Hairspray,” and “Legally Blonde.” His next Broadway project with Jerry Mitchell is “Pretty Woman the Musical,” with music and lyrics by Bryan Adams. It will open on Broadway in August 2018.
The CBT Gala benefits the Clarence Brown Theatre Artists Endowment, which helps bring professional guest artists from across the United States to the CBT to engage and teach undergraduate and graduate students, all while creating the world-class, professional theatre experiences Greater Knoxville audiences have come to expect.
With the iconic red boots in mind, the 2018 CBT Gala is sure to be a showstopper. Attendees are in for a fun-filled evening with a cocktail hour, full-course dinner, and a few other surprises up our sleeves. Let’s just say you don’t want to miss this event.

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Rhapsody in Blue

Part of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra's 2017-2018 Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series, which marks the KSO’s 82nd season and features new Music Director Aram Demirjian.
The May Masterworks ends the season with an all-American program featuring Aaron Copland (Symphony No. 3 including Fanfare for the Common Man), Florence Price (Piano Concerto), George Gershwin (Rhapsody in Blue) and Leonard Bernstein's Overture to the musical/operetta, Candide, which the KSO will perform in a full-scale collaborative production in fall 2018 with the Clarence Brown Theatre.
Pianist Michelle Cann will perform not one but TWO piano concerti--by Florence Price and George Gershwin, a spectacular season finale conducted by Maestro Aram Demirjian. Ms. Cann holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, after which she joined the Curtis staff as one of the new Collaborative Staff Pianists. Michelle is also on the faculty of the Luzerne Music Center as an instructor of piano and continues to perform with orchestras nationally.
