Clayton Center for the Arts: Riders in the Sky w/ the Quebe Sisters
Category: Music
Part of the Clayton Center for the Arts 2017-2018 season!
For more than thirty years Riders In The Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers by reviving and revitalizing Western music. And while remaining true to the integrity of Western music, they have become modern-day icons by branding the genre with their own legendary wacky humor and way-out Western wit.
Riders In The Sky are exceptional, not just in the sense that their music is of high standards (they are the ONLY exclusively Western artist to have won a Grammy, and Riders have won two), but by the fact that their accomplishments are an exception to the rule as well. Their cowboy charisma and comedic flair made them naturals for TV, landed them their own weekly show on TNN, and a Saturday morning series on CBS. They have been guests on countless TV specials, documentaries and variety shows, appearing with everyone from Barney to Penn & Teller.
In 1982, Riders In The Sky became the first, and to date only, exclusively Western music artist to join the Grand Ole Opry. Riders are equally at ease amusing a theatre full of children as enthralling a symphony audience accompanied by 50 or 60 classically trained instrumentalists, or even a group of servicemen during a USO Tour.

The third and final engagement in the series will be literally out of this world as astronaut Terry Virts brings “View from Above” on May 12. Candoro Arts & Heritage Center: 18th Annual Vestival Festival
Category: Festivals, special events and History, heritage
Vestival is an annual arts and music festival sponsored by the Candoro Arts and Cultural Center. Held on the Candoro Marble Company grounds over Mother’s Day Weekend each year, Vestival provides a diverse cultural and artistic event to the general public. Particular emphasis is placed on serving the citizens of the Vestal community, a community that was once a vibrant industrial community when the Vestal Lumber Company and the Candoro Marble Works were major industrial organizations. Each year, folks from all over the Knoxville area and the Southeast join us to celebrate and honor the rich heritage of Vestal – the South Knoxville neighborhood that is home to the Candoro Arts and Heritage Center – and surrounding communities. It’s not a festival, it’s VESTIVAL! Music, art, food, and more fill the event that is loved by all generations. Proceeds from the event go toward the preservation of the Candoro Arts and Heritage Center and programs that take place at the historic marble building.
At Vestival you'll enjoy the best food and family fun South Knoxville has to offer! Vestival takes pride in showcasing Knoxville's local artists, food vendors, and crafters. We're excited for an amazing line-up of performers at this year's Vestival! Times listed below are subject to change.
