Inner Voices String Quartet

  • May 11, 2018
  • 7:30PM

Category: Music

Inner Voices, Knoxville's hottest string quartet, will play old and new music in yet another unique setting on Friday, May 11.

The string quartet that insideofknoxville.com calls "about ninety minutes of wonderful" is at it again in a characteristic non-traditional setting, offering chamber music designed to inspire. As they explore new venues and provide unique listening experiences, Inner Voices String Quartet is back. After debuting in a former gas station in 2016, and later reappearing in an avant-garde hair salon, audiences wondered what their next space would be. Now it can be revealed: The flexible, mixed-use venue, Modern Studio, in the Happy Holler--Knoxville's "it" neighborhood and burgeoning cultural epicenter--just north of downtown.

True to form, Inner Voices String Quartet has eschewed a predictable concert theme, simply offering music that "needs to be heard" in the words of Jeanine Wilkinson, the ensemble's cellist. The concert, performed by the all-female quartet, includes works by two women composers, Is Now Not Enough? by Knoxvillian Dosia McKay and Strum by New York-based composer, Jessie Montgomery. Those pieces book-end Brahms' op. 88 Quintet No. 1 featuring guest violinist, Robyn Quinnett.

As is their habit, Inner Voices String Quartet catalyzes the musical experience by offering guests a signature drink and an invitation to gather afterward. Central Filling Station is the site where the experience continues post-concert.

Inner Voices String Quartet is comprised of four classically-trained musicians whose careers blissfully collided in Knoxville. Inspired by one another, and seizing upon their happy path-crossing, they formed an ensemble that has taken the region's hip-classical audience by storm.

Inner Voices String Quartet, presents "III" (that's "Three") at the Modern Studio, 109 W. Anderson Ave, Knoxville, 37917 in Happy Holler on Friday, May 11 at 7:30pm. Admission is $10 cash/credit, payable at the door, and includes a signature drink.

Join the musicians afterward at Central Filling Station, 900 N Central St. Ask questions. Give your impressions. Discuss the music, the signature drink, the venue, whatever you like!
