The inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas – four doublewides and a shed – are thrown for a loop when they realize the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them. But odd assortment of friends, enemies and neighbors realize they’ll have to work together to defeat the encroaching annexation if they – and their way of life – have a snowball’s chance to survive being swallowed up by ‘the big guys.’ The rollicking mayhem of this flat-out funny Jones Hope Wooten comedy escalates as the residents attempt to secede from Texas, discover a traitor in their midst and turn the tables in a surprising and side-splitting finale. KNOXVILLE WALKING TOURS – THE CIVIL WAR IN KNOXVILLE

It’s been over 150 years since the battle of Knoxville, one of the most sharply divided cities during the civil war. Occupied by both sides with recruiting offices set up on Gay Street on the same day, Knoxville was home to spies, street fights, and family feuds that outlasted the war.
Visit the downtown sites and then get an overview of the battles and fortifications from the observation deck of the Sunsphere.

Knoxville’s history is colorful and the predominant hue is blood red. Take a walk on the wild side, from the Old City to Gay Street, down to the river and beyond. The now peaceful streets were once the scene of violence and mayhem of all descriptions—family feuds, duels, lynchings, and riots. Telling all the stories might take years, so this tour varies its route and our guide is always finding fresh tales to share.

39th Annual Quilt Show, August 2 & 3, at the Knoxville Expo Center, 5441 Clinton Hwy, Knoxville.

We are especially proud of our quilt show that we have produced annually since 1980. We offer a variety of activities for our members such as community service sew days, challenges, and block and fabric swaps. Smoky Mountain Quilters strives to advance the knowledge and appreciation of the craftsmanship, artistic expression, and historical significance of quiltmaking; to sponsor and support charitable projects to provide encouragement to those in need; and to promote friendship through shared activities.

Alive After Five is a unique live music series that takes place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Ann and Steve Bailey Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, and free parking. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries. Admission is $15 for general and $10 for museum members and college students with ID. Ages 17 and under are admitted free.

The 5 x 5 Art Exhibit & Fundraiser will be held on August 2nd, 2019 at Tipton Gallery, 126 Spring Street, in downtown Johnson City from 5:55 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is organized and hosted by JCPA, and it is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

Last year’s exhibition was a huge success with over 50 participating artists and over 100 artworks for sale. A similar turnout is expected for the upcoming exhibition. All 5" x 5" artworks will be sold for $25 and are generously donated by area artists. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Johnson City Public Art (JCPA).

Join us Friday, July 19 from 6-8pm for an artist's reception with Howard Hull. In 1965, Hull began teaching at the UT Knoxville College of Education. During his tenure at UT, Hull’s painting, collages, and sculpture were frequently seen in various competitive Mid-South and one-person invitationals. Hull’s articles have routinely filled the pages of Arts and Activities, Tennessee Education, and School Arts, and his in-depth history of Tennessee WPA post office murals was published in 1996. Before his 1999 retirement, Hull coordinated numerous art educational workshops, curricular projects and extension courses on behalf of his department. Since leaving UT, he continues to be a productive painter and writer.
