Knoxville Museum of Art: 2020 East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition
Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Fine Crafts and Free event
The Knoxville Museum of Art and the Tennessee Art Education Association present the East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition now through Sunday, January 10, 2021.
Now in its 15th year, the exhibition offers middle and high school students from around East Tennessee the opportunity to participate in a juried exhibition and to display their talents and be honored for their accomplishments in a professional art museum environment.
The East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition is open to students in grades 6-12 attending public, private, or home schools in 32 counties across East Tennessee. Approximately 311 works of the more than 530 entries in this highly competitive show made it through a rigorous jury process. The best-in-show winner will receive a purchase award of $500, and the artwork will become a permanent part of the collection of Mr. James Dodson, on loan to the Knoxville Museum of Art's Education Collection.
Since 2005, the East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition has presented the work of nearly 4,000 students who have competed for a total of $7 million in scholarships made available to eligible juniors and seniors by colleges and universities from around the nation.
The Knoxville Museum of Art celebrates the art and artists of East Tennessee, presents new art and new ideas, serves and educates diverse audiences, and enhances Knoxville’s quality of life. The museum is located in downtown Knoxville at 1050 World’s Fair Park and is open to the public on a limited schedule Wednesday through Sunday 1–5pm. Admission and parking are free. Reservations are recommended by going to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/knoxville-museum-of-art-timed-entry-visitor-registration-registration-109053985406.

Recipes for a Hollyday
Don’t we need some good cheer?
But we’re writers, so we have to read the angst-ridden oracles too! Whatever you’ve got, brush it off and get it down to three minutes and read it at the Hollyday Open Mic.You can even read a real recipe, or a soul recipe, or anything your muse demands, even if it’s not written by you. Since this is usually an annual potluck, we invite all to share some treats and beverages virtually (if not virtuously). Just don’t take too many shots before you read (three minutes, remember). There are a few rules:
• Must be a member of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild (If not, join here)
• Send an email to OpenMic to register and we will place you in an exciting order of presentation. Please include whether your reading is fiction (poetry or prose) or non-fiction so we can mix up the order of readings.
• Did we mention, three minutes?
As always, programs are free, but you must register by midnight on Wednesday, Dec 2., to receive the link.

Souper Bowl XVII is December 3, 2020, 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Arrowmont continues the tradition of home-made meals for the local community this fall for Souper Bowl XVII. This year is a little different because of Covid; we haven’t been able to hold our usual in-person events. Souper Bowl XVII will include a pick-up lunch of your choice of soup, and each meal will include bread, cheese, cookies, and a hand-crafted bowl. We recognize that one of the joys of this event has been picking out your own bowl but in the interest of health and safety, bowls will be packed with your meal — a hand-picked prize for you to uncover on December 3, 2020.
Call 865-436-5860 to reserve your tickets by November 30, 2020. For orders of 10 or more, we will deliver (Sevier County, TN only). All proceeds benefit United Way of Sevier County. Thank you to Souper Bowl XVII sponsors, SmartBank and Food City.

Pellissippi State: Holiday Spectacular concert
Category: Free event, Kids, family and Music
The talented musicians and singers at Pellissippi State Community College know that “the show must go on.” That’s why the College will present its annual Holiday Spectacular concert online this year.
“Home for the Holidays … Again!” will premiere at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, on Pellissippi State’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Those who want to enjoy the concert will not need social media accounts to view the concert, as privacy will be set to “public.”
“Our annual Holiday Spectacular is one of the most well-loved events of the year, so we traditionally perform the show twice in the same night,” said Assistant Professor Meagan Humphreys, music program coordinator for Pellissippi State. “With so many of us working and learning from home this year due to the pandemic, we thought, ‘Why not bring the concert into people’s homes?’ It’s a very 2020 way to kick off the holiday season!”
This year’s concert will feature Pellissippi State’s jazz band, studio orchestra, percussion ensemble, bluegrass ensemble, guitar ensemble and brass ensemble as well as pieces by the College’s two choirs: Concert Chorale and Variations.
The eight songs will be a mix of sacred and secular holiday music, from “Away in a Manger” to “Jingle Bell Rock.”
There is no cost to view the concert, which will feature more than 70 Pellissippi State students.
For more information about Pellissippi State, visit www.pstcc.edu or call 865.694.6400.
