Thrill The World in Market Square
Category: Dance, movement, Free event and Kids, family
Thrill The World is an annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Every October, since 2006, Funky Zombies across the globe gather to synchronize their watches and dance to the greatest selling record of all time – Michael Jackson’s Thriller! Volunteer event organizers in cities around the world organize events using the Thrill The World leaders manual and Thrill The World tool box. Each event raises money for a local or not-for-profit charity of their choice. All official Thrill The World events that report their final totals after the event are included in the numbers for setting and breaking world records.
Thrill The World Knoxville is our local chapter of the Global Thrill The World event. We get together each year, dress like zombies, and dance to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' for a good cause, for fun, and to try to break a world record. This year we are raising money for the Young-Williams Animal Center in Knoxville.
If you've never been to a Thrill The World event I would recommend that you search for videos of Thrill The World events around the globe to see what we do. Then join us for free 'Thriller' dance lessons at one of our rehearsals. Visit http://www.thrilltheworld.com for more information on this global event.

The Athens Community Theatre: Auditions for Into the Woods
Category: Auditions
Athens Community Theatre is conducting auditions for their upcoming musical production of Into the Woods, book by James Lapine, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, on Sunday, October 27, 2:00 PM and Monday, October 28, 7:00 PM at The Arts Center in Athens, TN. Show dates for Into the Woods are February 13-23, 2014. The show is sponsored by SouthEast Bank & Trust.
Needed is a cast of approximately 20 singers/actors ranging in age from older teens through adults of all ages. In this fairytale mash-up of epic proportion, familiar faces embark on the unknown: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack (of beanstalk fame), dwell in a sylvan community where a meddling witch and a baker are next-door neighbors and the handsome princes from classic fables are competitive and comically vain paramours. Propelled by Sondheim’s majestic score, these characters venture “Into the Woods” and down a different path than that of the stories you’ve heard. The baker and his wife travel in search of a cow, a red cape, yellow hair, and gold slippers to lift a spell placed on them by the haggard witch. Cinderella, Jack, and Little red, too, have set out on inspired quests of their own. As the plot unfolds, these characters’ individual stories intersect through unexpected plot twists, and cameos by other characters of fairytale lore add to the thrill of the journey. In turn farcical and contemplative, James Lapine’s book examines themes of childhood and parenthood, ambition and desire, and takes on allegorical gravity when the tale does not end with “happily ever after.” This show is musically sophisticated and offers the chance to feature actors adept at dark comedy.
Into the Woods is directed by Melonie Carideo and G. David Brown. Everyone will be asked to sing a prepared solo from a Broadway show, read from the script, and perform simple movements. An accompanist will be provided. Anyone interested in working with the production in any capacity (set & costume design, technical crew, backstage crew, orchestra) is encouraged to attend an audition.
The Arts Center is located at 320 North White St. in downtown Athens. For more information call The Arts Center at 423-745-8781 or Melonie Carideo at 423-593-8713.
