Marble Springs: Stargazing Workshop

Begins at 10:00pm (gates will open at 9:00pm). Future workshops in this series will occur on October 4 and December 13. Details TBA.
This event is free, but donations are appreciated. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes, but telescopes will be available for use during the workshops. Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight (preferably with a red setting) and a chair if they would like to sit.

WDVX: Kidstuff Live

Kidstuff, hosted by Sean McCollough, is a show full of high-quality music geared to kids and the kids at heart airing every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. On most Saturdays, the show is a mix of recorded and live music from inside the WDVX studio. But on the second Saturday of month, everyone is invited to join the audience at the Knoxville Visitors Center for our free live performance edition. Knox Heritage: Summer Suppers: Summer Trifecta: Art, Antiques & Architecture

Come away a winner after this Summer Trifecta of Art, Antiques and Architecture at the home of Penny Lynch and Kimbro Maguire. This 1920’s Barber McMurry home is a stunning example of the English Arts and Crafts architectural style. The couple purchased the home in 1998 and spent the next three years completing two additions that blend seamlessly with the original architecture. Penny and Kimbro invite you to spend the evening exploring their beautiful gardens and enjoying the hospitality of their home with its eclectic decor which ranges from modern art to antiques. 30 guests, $185.00 per person. Clarence Brown Theatre: 40th Anniversary Season Kick-off Plaza Party

The Clarence Brown Theatre will host a 40th Anniversary Season Plaza Party. A family-friendly event, the party will feature door prizes, music, games, food carts, backstage tours, a special season ticket package price, and info on the new season. The party is free and open to the public.
Games for young and old alike, including life-size Connect Four and Chess, will be available along with face painting and Cornhole. Tours of the Carousel and CBT will take place every 30 minutes throughout the event. Four local food vendors, Pop Culture, Campfire Grill, Dale’s Fried Pies, and Good Golly Tamale, will be on site with specialties available for purchase.

Diamonds All-Stars: Texas Hold 'Em Tournament

Diamonds All-Stars Cheerleading will hold the first Diamonds' Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament, a no-limit tournament, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike, Knoxville.
Buy-in for the event is $60 in advance, $70 at the door if seats are still available. The event includes a barbecue lunch, which will be served beginning at noon. A snack bar will be available throughout the event.
The starting chip stack is $5,500 and the tournament will have 20 minute blinds. Rebuys will not be allowed. Prizes will be issued for first, second, third and fourth place winners and will be announced at the tournament. In addition, random drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the tournament.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the gym and its athletes. A portion of the proceeds will be used by the Booster Club to repair and/or purchase gym equipment. Additional funds will be credited to participating athletes to help cover competition costs.

Knox Heritage: Monthly Preservation Network Series: Ben Parham of State of the Art, Inc

Knox Heritage presents the next installment of the monthly series Preservation Network. Preservation Network is held at Historic Westwood, 3425 Kingston Pike. Parking is available next door at Laurel Church of Christ, 3457 Kingston Pike. It is free and open to the public. Preservation Network’s August session features Ben Parham, owner and operator of State of the Art, Inc a stained glass studio based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Parham will discuss the restoration of the Historic Westwood stained glass windows and provide basic information relating to stained glass restoration.
Ben Parham has been designing and restoring stained glass windows for 34 years. After mastering his craft at several major studios, Ben opened State of the Art Stained Glass in 1990. With his vision, and strict attention to detail, Ben has lead State of the Art into becoming one of the top 10% of stained glass studios in the country. Preservation Network is a series of free workshops held once every month on the second Saturday. Many people have dubbed this the “support group for owners of old homes.” The workshops have presented guest speakers who are specialists in windows, flooring, roofing, stained glass, tile, plumbing, electrical, and more. Other guest speakers have included those in real estate sales or appraisals, or city codes and zoning officials discussing historic overlays and building requirements.

The Cabin Café and Dragonfly Art Dimensions present Second Saturdays

Side Splitters Comedy Club: Johnny Beehner

Johnny Beehner puts on a very funny show. He can be heard on XM/ Sirius Satellite radio, he’s been on the Bob and Tom nationally syndicated radio show multiple times, and he is constantly traveling from city to city across the country making people laugh.
With a stong background in improvisational theater throughout all of college, including training at Chicago’s prestigious Second City, Johnny brings a very unique show to the stage. His shows have been described as “silly,” “smart,” “fun,” and “hilarious.” Johnny centers himself as the butt of most of his jokes with tales of growing up an awkward, tall, skinny middle child in a huge family. Whether it’s at a college, a private event, or a comedy club, Johnny’s clean and clever style of comedy is sure to keep the audience laughing.
