UT Gardens: Become a Citizen Scientist

  • June 18, 2016
  • 9:00AM-3:30PM

Category: Classes, workshops, Kids, family and Science, nature

Citizen scientists are everyday people - just like you - who volunteer to help scientists with their research – by collecting data, sharing experiences or spreading valuable information. Scientists benefit from having a lot more data to analyze and a pool of volunteers willing to help.

This symposium explores several programs designed to engage the general public as 'citizen scientists' in monitoring threatened plants and animals. Featured presenter,Dr. Joanne Logan, will discuss climatology on both a global and local scale. Participants will learn nature journaling and basic botanic sketching to strengthen observation skills. We hope that participants will be interested in becoming 'citizen scientists' of the UT Gardens and help us monitor natural changes throughout the year. Monitory programs will include the Great Sunflower Project, Project BudBurst, and Monarch Monitoring. This event is suitable for children, parents and educators. Lunch is included in the symposium fee.

Saturday, June 18, 2016 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
