Two Magnificent Gardens Re-Open!

Thanks to April showers, we will reopen two of our featured gardens this June!
On June 3 & 4, we will open GATOP garden, a beautiful 10 acre garden in East Knoxville off Riverside Drive. This is an amazing property which is archived with the Smithsonian Institute and features an extensive sculpture collection.
On June 10 & 11, we will open Savage garden, a garden in the middle of Fountain City. After many years of extensive restoration, Savage Garden is once again the kind of magical place envisioned by Arthur Savage a hundred years ago. This garden is located at 3237 Garden Drive. Dogwood Arts' Featured Gardens are sponsored by ORNL Federal Credit Union.
This event is free though a $5 donation on-site is suggested.

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame honors its 19th group of inductees, the Class of 2017! Join us at the historic Tennessee Theatre as six legends of the game: Sally Bell, Christine Grant, Rick Insell, Louise O'Neal, Sheryl Swoopes, and Kara Wolters enter the Hall of Fame.

Free to the public! The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame will host three book signings this year during our 2017 Induction Ceremony on June 10. Tammy Moore Harrison daughter of Orwell Moore, Susie Gardner head coach at Mercer University, and Maria M. Cornelius will be signing their books from 10 AM - 12 PM on June 10 at the Hall of Fame. Bijou Theatre: Henry Cho

Henry‘s TV and film credits include appearances on NBC‘s The Tonight Show, CBS‘s The Late, Late, Show, and NBC‘s Young Comedians Special. He served two years as host of NBC‘s Friday Night Videos and had many guest roles on various network sitcoms.
Henry‘s one hour Comedy Central Special, ”What‘s That Clickin Noise?“ is currently running and he can also be heard on Sirrus, XM and Blue Collar Radio. He‘s also a regular performer at the Grand Ole Opry.
Some of Henry‘s film credits include Universal‘s McHale‘s Navy with Tom Arnold and David Allen Greer; Say It Isn‘t So with Heather Graham and Sally Field; and Material Girls with Hilary Duff and Angelica Houston produced by Madonna.

A Night in Old Havana is an evening of music, dance, food, and games that harkens back to the heyday of Havana nightlife. The event includes dance demonstrations, casino games, and a silent auction full of great prizes. Proceeds from the event benefit the East Tennessee Technology Access Center whose mission is to provide assistive technology to people with disabilities in order to help them live more independent and fulfilling lives. Families in the Creek Event

Knox County Stormwater partners with The Water Quality Forum to provide the public a unique opportunity to learn about and help improve water quality in local creeks, called “Families in the Creek”. Similar to the Kids in the Creek program, participants will learn how to determine if a creek is healthy by conducting a range of fascinating aquatic and streamside assessments led by trained water resource professionals. Among the many activities, adults and youth alike will suit up in waders to identify the diversity of fish present. Waders will be provided but please bring old shoes that can get wet and muddy to go over the wader booties. Community members will be invited to register, with a limit of 25 participants ages 9 and up to ensure a quality experience for all. Lunch and t-shirt will be provided.

Knoxville Children's Theatre: Sleeping Beauty

Knoxville Children’s Theatre, in partnership with The Ritchie Company, will present “Sleeping Beauty & the Seven Sisters,” based on the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault.
The play will be performed June 9 - 25, Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM; Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM; Sundays at 3 PM. KCT reboots the classic story amidst the color and pageantry of France. The happy life of Briar-Rose is interrupted by a curse from one of the Seven Wise Sisters of Fountainbleau, sending the girl into a deep sleep. Can an ancient wizard and a young soldier come to her rescue with some magic of their own?
The play is performed by 14 talented young actors, from ages 8 to 14.
