The Arts Council of Roane County is honored to present our Sixth Annual Open Show at the Rockwood Visitor Center and Museum, 241 Rockwood Street, Rockwood TN 37854.

The Arts Council is committed to promoting art and artists to the community and this event showcases some of the best art from around the region. Awards will be given for Best of Show, First, Second, and Third places in the adult category and for First, Second and Third places in the student category.

The reception will be Thursday, November 2 from 5:00 till 9:00 PM at the Rockwood Visitor Center and Museum. Tickets are available from ACRC members, the website and at the door for $10, children under 10 get in free. Hors d’oeuvres, wine, and soft drinks will be served. All money earned will help fund future activities of the Arts Council.

Peruse art, photographs and journals by students and faculty during their study abroad adventures throughout 2017. This exhibit is co-presented by Tennessee Consortium for International Studies. Exhibit times: 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, through Nov. 17. Reception to meet the artists is 3-5 p.m., Oct. 30.

The Camera Club of Oak Ridge is pleased to announce the 69th Annual Photographic Salon. The exhibition contains photographs in 9 categories from wildlife and landscapes to abstracts and creative development.

The Salon will be on display at the Y-12 New Hope Center, 602 Scarboro Rd. OR, from October 30 to November 9 during their regular business hours, Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm.

The reception and gallery walk with comments by the jurors and light refreshments will be held on Friday, November 3rd, 7-9pm.

Camera enthusiasts have been showing the public their best photos of the year since 1948. All entries are judged by a panel of professionals and best of show awards are given in three divisions. This year an additional student competition was introduced and the prizes in this category will be awarded during the reception. Don’t miss this amazing show featuring the talent of photographers of the whole region.

Mysterious Past of the Blount Mansion: Legends, Customs, and Myths

It's that time of the year! Ghosts, goblins, witches, haints, and The Mysterious Past of Blount Mansion. Our annual Halloween event will be bigger and better than ever this year. There will be ghost stories, scary legends, history about death and dying in the 18th and 19th centuries, and more! There will be candy for the kids and some extra special fun with our other house on-site, the Craighead-Jackson House - one of the most haunted sites in Knoxville!

Art is happening in downtown Sevierville, TN. Artist Dasha Jamison will exhibit her paintings and pastels in her first solo show at Courthouse Donuts/Dyers Downtown through December 31st. A reception for the artist will take place Thursday, November 16th from 5:30 until 8:00 and is free to the public. This exhibition is part of an on-going series sponsored by the Sevierville Commons Arts Council and Sevierville Commons Association.

Born and raised in Russia, Dasha Jamison creates her paintings and drawings with the hope that the work will transport you to “ …a place you want to be.” Her appreciation for art was instilled by her mother and Dasha had the privilege to attend art classes as a child. As an exchange student, she moved to the United States and received her Master’s Degree in IT Engineering. Her journey as an artist began again in recent years, drawing inspiration from the landscapes of her travels. She utilizes a variety of media for her paintings, though drawing with pastels is her favorite form in which to be expressive. Dasha Jamison is a member of the Chicago Pastel Painters Association.

Old City Ghosts – The lively entertainment section now known as the Old City wasn’t always so friendly. The neighborhood has a history of dark times and dark deeds, and the remnants aren’t just in the architecture. Formerly known as the Bowery, the district was home to saloons, dance halls, pool rooms, and bars, where famous gunmen, thieves, ladies of the evening, and troublemakers of all kinds bumped elbows with naïve travelers and honest working folk. Life here was violent—and often short.

Photographers of all ages – amateur and professional – share their vision of “sanctuary” in this first annual photography exhibition. Participants were asked to consider the definition of sanctuary: “a place of refuge or safety; a sacred place” and what that means to them…Where is your sanctuary? Is it a feeling? Is it a memory? Is it real? Is it imagined?

Over 20 photos are in the exhibition which runs through January 2018. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 19 from 6:00-7:30pm. The restaurant will remain open during the reception.

Inexteriors is a series of paintings by artist Marcia Santore that address ideas of impossible architectural spaces. The series has developed over a number of years and has been inspired by visions of windows through doorways through windows, the patterns of light in interior spaces created by seen or unseen openings, indeterminate interior and exterior spaces, unknown houses seen from within and without, mysterious stairways and hallways and hidden rooms, figures that inhabit (haunt?) those spaces, and the potential for these spaces to tell or conceal multiple, unfolding stories. Some of these paintings are in oil and others in acrylic. Some include collaged elements such as recycled paper.
