UT Arboretum Society: Third Saturday Hike
Category: Free event and Science, nature
The UT Arboretum Society’s monthly hike (third Saturday monthly) for July will be held July 21 at the UT Arboretum, 9:00 a.m.
The weather is warm, and an early morning hike will be refreshing. Be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated as you hike. Learn about the UT Arboretum’s trails on this short trail hike (1 to 1.5 hours). Hiking any trail above your fitness level can make for a less than enjoyable day while out on the trail. Hikes will be varied in intensity level, and the route may be changed due to weather conditions or leader’s choice. This hike will be held outdoors and will be led by a volunteer familiar with the Arboretum and the trail system.
Come to the UT Arboretum, 901 S. Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge at 9:00 a.m. Wear clothes appropriate to the weather and boots or good shoes for outdoor walking. We aim for these hikes to be suitable for all, but the difficulty level of the hike is dependent on individual fitness.
This is a free program offered by the University of Tennessee Arboretum Society.
To learn more about this hike or the UT Arboretum Society, go to www.utarboretumsociety.org. For more information on the program, call 865-483-7277.

SMSA Performers:
Roland Mote grew up in Middle Tennessee and has lived in Maryville, Tennessee for 34 years. His stories are drawn from his family's oral history, personal experience, and "something I heard somewhere", all with some degree of fabrication and maybe a little truth stretching. While suitable for all ages, adults are his focus audience. For 50 years or so he has been telling stories to gatherings of professional colleagues, church fellowships, class reunions, and civic club meetings.
Stephen Fulbright 's tales of a boy growing up in East Tennessee would make
Mark Twain proud. Learning chemistry via snow bombs, physics with tater guns, he became a well known engineer, working for truth, justice and the American way.

Theatre Knoxville Downtown: The Fantasticks
Music by Harvey Schmidt, Lyrics by Tom Jones
Directed by Rebecca Gomez
"Try To Remember" a time when this romantic charmer wasn't enchanting audiences around the world. The Fantasticks is the longest-running musical in the world and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.
The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two fathers who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo's words that, "without a hurt, the heart is hollow."
