Bliss Home: Art by Jennifer Simpson

Bliss Home is proud to present Jennifer Simpson for December's First Friday. A reception will be held Friday, December 7 at 29 Market Square from 6pm to 9pm.
Jennifer Simpson is a Knoxville based artist who uses a unique mixed media process to create one-of-a-kind art which captures her childhood recollections and current daydreams. Jennifer's art aims to evoke the inner-child in all of us, while getting the viewer to bring forth memories of a simpler, happier time.

American Museum of Science and Engineering: Movies at the Museum

Dec. 7 "Movies at the Museum" featuring "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" (NR - 1953) as a result of an arctic nuclear test, a carnivorous dinosaur thaws out and starts making its way down the east coast of North America. 7 pm in AMSE Auditorium. Movie presented by AMSE Foundation and special event sponsors Costco Wholesale, Enrichment Federal Credit Union, Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau, Premier Locations, an Authorized Agent of U.S. Cellular, and Z11 Communications. Public invited. No charge to visit AMSE open at 5:30 pm, including "Be A Dinosaur" virtual technology exhibition, prior to the free admission "Movies at the Museum" beginning at 7:00 pm in AMSE Auditorium.

East Tennessee Historical Society: Brown Bag Lecture by Dr. Eirug Davies

“The Welsh of Tennessee†is the subject of a Brown Bag Lecture and book signing at the East Tennessee History Center at noon on December 7. Dr. Eirug Davies, associate member of Harvard University’s Celtic Department, will discuss his new book and the remarkable story of how the Welsh helped develop East Tennessee’s fledgling iron and coal industries after the Civil War.
The program is sponsored by the East Tennessee Historical Society in partnership with the Coal Creek Watershed Foundation, and is free and open to the public. The lecture will begin at noon at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay Street, Knoxville. Guests are invited to bring a “Brown Bag†lunch and enjoy the lecture. Soft drinks will be available. The Tams at Field of Dreams Activity Center

Featured Artist: Stephanie Levy
Stephanie was born in New Orleans, she first touched clay over forty years ago in a pottery class in college. Pottery led to ceramic sculpture and her work was shown in galleries and museums from Chicago to California, including the John Michael Kohler Art Center, the Crocker Art Museum and The Long Beach Museum of Art. Her work has been pictured in Ceramics Monthly and Craft Report, and featured in Ceramic Review (London, England).

Rose Center: Christmas Open House

Rose Center in Morristown will hold its annual Christmas Open House on Friday, December 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
“Our Gift to the Community – A Christmas Homecoming†is the theme for this year’s open house, which will be a wonderful holiday evening. Bring your entire family and come enjoy seeing Rose Center decked out in its traditional holiday attire and indulge in delicious hors d’oeuvres and sweets prepared by the Guild. Also be sure to allow time to tour the “Winter Scenes and Dreams†Exhibit in the Edith Davis Gallery. Also this weekend a Holiday Craft Show will be held in the classroom wing Friday from 2-8pm and Saturday 9am-3pm.
Entertainment for the evening includes a Brass Ensemble, the Singing Saints from All Saint’s Episcopal School, and dances from “Nutcracker†by the Downtown Dance Theatre. A harp and violin duo will perform throughout the evening in the Community Room.
Rose Center, located at 442 W Second N St. in downtown Morristown, is a museum and community cultural center for the Lakeway region, serving eight counties as a designated agency of the Tennessee Arts Commission. More information is available at 581-4330 or www.RoseCenter.org.

Art Market Gallery: Recent Works by Eric Gebhart and Elaine Barnes

December 4-30, Art Market Gallery of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Eric Gebhart and Elaine Barnes.
Eric Gebhart is a nature and landscape photographer who draws much of his inspiration from the Smoky Mountains.
Elaine Barnes will be exhibiting a collection of her recent works in clay.
A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for December 7th from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live music.
Continuing in the month of December, the gallery will offer artisan-made ornaments for sale to benefit the Community School of the Arts, a non-profit program that provides free instruction in music, visual arts, modern dance and drama to children from underserved areas of Knox county.

Farragut Folklife Museum: An Old Fashioned Christmas

The Farragut Folklife Museum invites the community to visit "An Old Fashioned Christmas" exhibit, on display now through Dec. 28, 2012 (closed Dec. 24 and 25). This special holiday exhibit will feature items from the Museum's collection of artifacts as well as items belonging to Folklife Museum Committee members.
The exhibit showcases a variety of antique toys, games and dolls dating from the late 1800s through the 1900s.
The Farragut Folklife Museum is committed to preserving the heritage of its East Tennessee community and features a remarkable collection of artifacts from the area, including an extensive collection of the personal belongings of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, first Admiral of the U.S. Navy and hero of the Civil War. Housed in the Farragut Town Hall located at 11408 Municipal Center Drive, the Museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers free admission.
