In case you're not aware, Central Cinema grew largely out of its owners' experience presenting the Knoxville Horror Film Fest, which returns October 20-22 for its ninth annual weekend event. This year's fest features one of our strongest lineups yet, including Takashi Miike's Blade Of The Immortal, Flying Lotus' Kuso, Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead's The Endless and Synapse Films' 40th anniversary restoration of Dario Argento's Suspiria! (This is also the official announcement of this year's tenth feature: a special preview screening of the upcoming slasher comedy Tragedy Girls!) And though we hope to present much of KHFF at Central Cinema in the years to come, in the meantime we've scheduled out our first wall-to-wall weekend at Regal's Downtown West Cinema 8, ensuring an optimal theatrical setting for every one of this year's films.

Each year the Knoxville Gem & Mineral Society hosts a Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show to the public. This show is a must see for any rock connoisseur or anyone with a love and fascination with gems, minerals, fossils, and other mineralogical and geological wonders.

The three day 27th Annual Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show opens October 20th at 10 am at the Kerbela Temple, 315 Mimosa Ave in Knoxville TN. Show times are from 10:00 am to 6 pm October 20th – 21th, Friday and Saturday; from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 22th. The Gem Show is open to the public and has an admission fee of $6 a day for adults or $10 for the whole show; children under 12 are admitted free. The Gem and Mineral Show will have many vendors that offer great products including a wide variety of jewelry, rare fossil and mineral specimens, meteorites, gems of all colors shapes & sizes, lapidary & jewelry equipment, and much more.

The Knoxville Gem and Mineral Society is a non-profit organization. A portion of the proceeds from our annual show is used for educational purposes in the earth sciences. Photographers of all ages – amateur and professional – share their vision of “sanctuary” in this first annual photography exhibition. Participants were asked to consider the definition of sanctuary: “a place of refuge or safety; a sacred place” and what that means to them…Where is your sanctuary? Is it a feeling? Is it a memory? Is it real? Is it imagined?

Over 20 photos are in the exhibition which runs through January 2018. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 19 from 6:00-7:30pm. The restaurant will remain open during the reception.

Come and join the spirits for a tour of Downtown Knoxville’s scariest landmarks. The tours, which last approximately two hours each, will visit the sites of some of Knoxville’s best kept secrets. The tour will be about one and a half miles in length. All tours begin and end at James White’s Fort located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive. Ample free parking is available for tour participants at the Fort.

Tours are given October 19, 20, 23, 24, 28, 30. Tours will depart promptly at 7:00pm each evening. Please plan to arrive between 6:30-6:45pm for check in. Each tour will end with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort.
Admission for Adults 16 and over will be $10.00 and $6.00 for children ages 6–15.

Tinsel & Treasure is an annual shopping event and fundraiser for the Junior League of Knoxville, highlighting local and regional merchants. Our merchants sell everything from women's fashions to home decor to handcrafted jewelry and leather goods. Proceeds from vendor booth purchases and ticket sales go directly back into the community.

Shopping days are Friday, October 20th, 2017 from 9 AM-6 PM, Saturday, October 21st from 10 AM-6 PM and Sunday, October 22nd from 12-5 PM. This year's event will be held at Rothchild Catering and Conference Center in West Knoxville.

The Junior League of Knoxville is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Inexteriors is a series of paintings by artist Marcia Santore that address ideas of impossible architectural spaces. The series has developed over a number of years and has been inspired by visions of windows through doorways through windows, the patterns of light in interior spaces created by seen or unseen openings, indeterminate interior and exterior spaces, unknown houses seen from within and without, mysterious stairways and hallways and hidden rooms, figures that inhabit (haunt?) those spaces, and the potential for these spaces to tell or conceal multiple, unfolding stories. Some of these paintings are in oil and others in acrylic. Some include collaged elements such as recycled paper.

Flying Anvil Theatre presents a haunting tale of desire and obsession. Something dark and irresistible lives deep in the woods of Appalachia in The Love Talker by Deborah Pryor. Gowdie and Bun are orphaned sisters haunted by a mysterious presence that lured their mother away when they were very young. While Gowdie is tempted to follow the siren call of the Love Talker, her sister will do anything to save her, including sacrificing herself.

Based on an Irish folk tale, The Love Talker is an eerie, sensual play—set in a world where strange spirits walk the earth and magic is all around—recalling the darkest of Grimm’s' fairy tales. The play was originally produced at Actors Theatre of Louisville and published in an anthology, where director Jayne Morgan first read it.

“I’ve been wanting to do this play for about 30 years,” Morgan says. “It’s familiar because we know these lovely accents and the wild beauty of the forest. But it also taps into our primeval fear of the dark, of losing control. This show will seduce and unsettle you and make you examine your own obsessions and secrets.” Morgan says she has found strong actors to bring this haunting tale to life. The play reunites the two leads from an earlier Flying Anvil show, Venus in Fur—Carolyn Corley and JD Sizemore. Younger sister Gowdie is played by UT theatre student Emily Cullum, and Margy Ragsdale is the malignant spirit, the Redhead.

The production marks the theatre’s first use of an upgraded lighting system. The show is recommended for adults.

Performances are Wed-Sat at 7:30 PM and Sun at 2 PM.

It follows a group of strangers – one of whom is a murderer – trapped in a boarding house during a snow storm. Is it the newlyweds whose rampant suspicions nearly wreck their marriage, or the spinster with the curious background? Perhaps it is the architect, the retired Army major, or the odd man who claims his car overturned in a snow drift?

The play is also known for its twist ending, which at the end of every performance the audience is asked not to reveal.

Tiger Lily Theatre is proud to present Neil Labute’s Fat Pig. This production will be performed at Modern Studio. Performances are being held over two weekends; on October 13-15 and October 19-22. Since the its debut in 2004, Fat Pig has been making audiences laugh, cry, and think about human nature and the lengths one will go to fit in. Fat Pig is a brutally honest look at a relationship between an average guy and a plus sized woman. The topics of fitting in, being normal, and conforming to society’s notions of being attractive have never been more relevant. How far will one man go for the woman he loves? Will he be willing to take the ridicule to find happiness? Neil Labute’s Fat Pig takes us on a heart wrenching journey of acceptance of who we are, and who we want to be; for better or worse.
