UT Downtown Gallery: Alumni in the Permanent Collection

Join us for an opening reception on Friday, August 3 at 5 PM - 9 PM

The UT Downtown Gallery will be showing works from the Ewing Gallery permanent collection. The Ewing Gallery has many works by former undergraduate and graduate students. This exhibition features a selection of works from every department in the School of Art created from the 1970s - present day.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Alive After Five

The Streamliners Swing Orchestra

Alive After Five is a unique live music series that takes place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Ann and Steve Bailey Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, and free parking. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries. Admission is $15 for general and $10 for museum members and college students with ID. Ages 17 and under are admitted free.

Find joy on First Friday, August 3, 2018, 6:00-10:00pm, at Smart & Becker, 1154 McCalla Avenue Knoxville, TN, 37915.

Finding Joy is a collection of abstract embroidery work by artist Shea Goitia. These pieces chronicle the experience with a medium that often has a connotation with spinsterdom, but has been reclaimed in the form of embracing singleness and the self-awareness it produces.

Jon Pemberton is a Special Education teacher, and during the summers he creates his pop-art paintings. He went to art school in Denver, where he first felt free to explore his love of materials,process, and color. He claims, "Making his work allows him to display his truth as a 30-something nerd who loves hip hop." Please join us for the show openings and to meet the artist!

Also, we will continue to feature the work of our featured artist from last month, Sarah Moore.

Come join us this First Friday on August 6th for the opening reception of Steadfast Lookin, an exhibition of artworks by local artist Brandon McBath. Brandon will be sharing with his large scale, multi-layered drawings influenced by the art within television, anime, and video games, as well as his Christian faith. Brandon McBath graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2016 with a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing and a minor in Art History. He was born and raised in East Tennessee, lives in Knoxville, and teaches art at Concord Christian School in Farragut.

"Newer Things" will view at the downtown Knoxville Tomato Head on Market Square thru August 5th. He will then exhibit from the West Knoxville Gallery Tomato Head from August 7th thru September 3rd.

Carl Gombert is the featured artist, and while you probably won’t catch him there to share his personal magic, the works in his exhibit have a magic all their own. The exhibit consists of rubber stamped decorative pieces that have been Gombert’s focus for the last five years...
