Ijams Nature Center: Forest Bathing Workshop
Category: Classes, workshops, Health, wellness and Science, nature
9:30-11:30 AM
Spend a relaxing two hours connecting with nature with ANFT-trained forest therapy guide Sarah Schortz at the Ijams Homesite. Everyone knows that being in nature is good for our wellbeing, but often we don't know how to slow down and just BE to receive all the healing, restorative gifts that nature has to offer.
During this two-hour, immersive experience, you will be guided through a series of relaxing activities designed to help you slow down, and mindfully engage with and explore the natural world through your senses while you discover new ways of being in and with nature.
Forest bathing is different from educational nature programs in that the purpose is not to learn any new information, but to experience and connect with nature. Much like you would not read a book or study facts about a new friend, forest bathing facilitates a way of deeper knowing and understanding the natural world.
This event is NOT a hike and involves very minimal walking. Most of the time will be spent together in the same area near the Miller Building. During the event, participants will alternate between gathering as a group and wandering about exploring on their own with suggested prompts provided by your guide. The purpose of this event is to create a space for you to have a meaningful, restorative experience in nature. All activities offered are optional for you to participate in or adapt as you like.
You may wish to bring a journal, something to write with, water, and a snack. You may also wish to bring a blanket or small outdoor chair if you prefer not to sit on the ground. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you do not mind getting a bit of dirt on, and bring a raincoat if it's drizzly. Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased prior to the event.
