The Emporium Center: Images from Around by Jennifer Henszey
Category: Exhibitions, visual art and Free event
The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present five new exhibitions at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from November 4-26, 2022. A free reception with the artists will take place on Friday, November 4, from 5:00-9:00 PM and features live music inside the Emporium by Shayla McDaniel. Most of the works will be for sale and may be purchased through the close of the exhibition by visiting in person or the online shop at www.knoxalliance.store.
Within the last year, I took up photography as a hobby to heal. I found the more I embraced life's tumultuous events and opened myself up in gratitude to the world around me, the more the world revealed much for which to be grateful. I began noticing beauty in the simplest things, and even envisioned in my mind's eye the potential for beauty to exist in the ordinary... so I snapped the picture and then created what I envisioned in my mind. I am not a professional or seasoned artist by any means, but in a season of growth, I am finding myself creating what feels like art. I am pleased to present photographs of images from around Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee, all captured using an iPhone camera.
Jennifer Henszey was born and raised in Cambridge on Maryland's Eastern Shore. After graduating high school, she attended Virginia Tech where she received her commission as an officer in the United States Navy. She served as a naval Surface Warfare Officer from 2008 to 2021. She graduated from law school at the University of Tennessee in 2018 and recently returned to the University of Tennessee in 2021 to pursue a Masters in Social Work. She proudly claims Knoxville as her permanent home where she enjoys the people, music, and culture, all of which also inspire her to create.

Returning to Knoxville Opera after twenty years, Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow is an effervescent romantic comedy that follows a group of Pontevedrians living in Paris as they try to convince the titular widow, Hanna Glawari, to marry a Pontevedrian so her vast wealth won’t leave the country. Operatic high-jinks ensue as Hanna and Count Danilo literally dance around their romantic feelings for each other. This charming show will have you and your family full of joy and delight by the end of the evening. This production is in collaboration with with the University of Tennessee Opera Theatre and will feature many students and alumni.
“We see great value in this collaboration and plan to grow and further the opportunities with the University of Tennessee Opera Theatre. Investing in these rising young singers enables us to build a strong foundation for a robust, thriving artist community in Knoxville. We intend to rival Barnes, Harper, Heupel, and Vitello in our effort to bring top-tier talent to Knoxville! says Jason Hardy, General Director and CEO of Knoxville Opera,” says Jason Hardy, General Director and CEO of Knoxville Opera.

At 4070 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, 37919
St. George Greek Orthodox Church has celebrated its annual Greek Fest since 1977! Originally, the Knoxville Greek Fest was organized to introduce Greek food, culture, and dance to the local community. Greek Fest is one of the most popular events in Knoxville, attracting over 20,000 visitors over the weekend.
The festival features a variety of traditional dishes, dances, music, and more! In addition, the award winning Greek dancers train and compete annually in competitions around the country. There is also an introductory church tour for those wishing to learn more about the Greek Orthodox history and faith.
We take this opportunity to thank you for being a patron of the Greek Fest, enjoying our culture, and helping us do more for our community needs. And as we say in Greek “OPA”! A celebration cheer of joy!

Dragonfly Aerial Arts: 2022 Circus After Dark
Category: Dance, movement
Welcome to our in person Circus After Dark 2022! Our show might look a little different this year than years past as we have decided to open up the floodgates and give our performers a little more flexibility (anyone want to see a split?) and autonomy on what moves and inspires them, and of course, makes them feel sexy! Some of the pieces this evening will be fun, silly, and light hearted while others may take a slightly more serious turn. Get ready to see some more variety and sample different flavors for you to enjoy with acts from flowy aerial silks and trapeze on cotton rope play with burlesque and fire spinning! This is, of course, an *adult* show, so we hope you will enjoy what we have put our bruises, hips, tears and nips into for the past few months! For ages 21+
