An exhibition celebrating Southern Appalachian artists and authors. Opening reception will take place on First Friday Oct 4th, 6-9pm.

The First Friday event will also host 8 open artist studios, poetry readings by Chelsie Nunn and Jazmin Witherspoon, and live printing with Relay Ridge merch. The exhibition will be up October 4th - November 8th, 2024, on view during public events or by appointment.

No Tricks; just treats as we kick off the Halloween season with the second annual "Haunted Art Show" curated by Esther Sitver. The Oak Ridge Art Center's Open Show is a juried mixed-media exhibition open to all artists. It is intended to showcase exceptional work produced throughout our region. Over $4,000 in awards are available. The 2024 juror will be David Underwood, Professor of Art and Director of Exhibitions at Carson­ Newman University.

Friday evening, September 27th will mark the 26th consecutive year that Maple Lane Farms will open its Corn Maze and other “agritainment” activities that include tractor-pulled hayrides (daytime and nighttime), pumpkin picking, inflatables for the kids, music, corn hole, food vendors, face painting, photo ops, sunflower fields, and other wholesome family fun to the public!

The Maze is located at 1126 Maple Lane in Greenback, just 14 miles south of Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport. The Maze is open weekends from September 27 through October 31. The Haunted Maze begins on weekends starting Friday night Oct 18. Opening hours are the following:

The WDVX Blue Plate Special is a live performance radio show held at noon at Visit Knoxville (301 S. Gay Street) every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with your host Red Hickey… and on Saturday with host Sean McCollough. On Fridays WDVX takes the Blue Plate Special to Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria (200 E Jackson Ave) for “The Big Plate”. A portion of the proceeds for downtown tours go to help fund the work of the non-profit Knoxville History Project. Capoeira Fundo da Mata is the Knoxville chapter of UCA. We train at the Sustainable Future Center (map) on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30. Classes are $5 and the first class is free.

The classes are led by Instructors Bode and Odisseu who have over 15 years of experience each in capoeira and are under the instruction of Mestre Avestruz who has nearly 40 years of experience. Capoeira is a great combination of exercise, mobility, fun movement and expression, as well as music and Brazilian culture.

We dance to live music every Monday night, 8-11 pm, at the Laurel Theater (16th St. and Laurel Ave.)

Fee: $8 ($5 for students & those just listening). If this is your first time, come a few minutes early and join our new dancer workshop, where we teach the basics. Beginners are welcome, no partner or experience is required. It's easy and fun! With very rare exceptions we dance every Monday night. All dances will be taught. We dance in the historic Laurel Theater, to preserve our dance floor, we request that you wear or bring clean, non-marking, soft-soled or leather shoes for dancing.
